it's the guy's first nba-like game. he was never a good defender in college, he's not used to the speed of the nba game yet.

i think we will see a big difference by the end of pre-season. i'm not saying he will be an average defender, but a lot less "OMG 8 FOULS!!"

One more thing... at least he was trying to play defense instead of letting the guy get by him everytime.

I saw Novak play in the Orlando Predarft Camp. He moves surpisingly well laterally, around picks, through the lane and such. He looks like his dad coached him well on the art of getting open. He is not just a spot up 3 point shooter. He is not the best ball handler but can dribble once or twice to get open before shooting. He also uses pump fakes very well. Just a smart, well-coached offensive player.

he cannot play any worse defense than the scrubs we had on the floor last year - Rafer, JHo, SS, Boguns, Bowen.

And the added bonus is he can hit a shot - Gundy hasn't ruined him yet.

I am fine with Bogun's defensive play. If Novak possesses Bogun's defensive skills, I will be very happy.

To be honest, I don't watch that much college basketball, so my impressions are based mostly on scouting reports and highlight reels. But it seems pretty plain that Morrison is a much more skilled scorer. Inside, outside, mid-range, off the dribble, spotting up, garbage buckets etc. He's dealt with more defensive attention and been a much bigger focus of his team's offensive attack. While Novak seems like he can only be a factor off the ball, running around screens or pulling up after a dribble or two.

after reading the write up from this game i'm very excited to see Novak in a rockets uni. He sounds like he will know his role and will improve with more coaching. hopefully everyone overlooked him.

hopefully van gundy will get comfortable with him early.

If there is a sure thing in every draft, it's that a few players get "overlooked," and develop into something good, or better than good. Who knows... it's summertime, when daydreaming is in full swing around here. Maybe we got lucky.

    To see who?

Who would you pay to see? A waste of money - just wait for October.

Lucas and Baxter could be nice 3rd string PG and 3rd string PF/C at the minimum.
