I am currently studying for my licensing for my series 6 and 63 exams in order to become a financial consultant. I was wondering if anybody has taken either of these exams and had some tips on the types of questions asked, difficulty, if you purchased a certain study guide and if so if it helped? any impressions on the test? Thanks for the help.
I've taken the 7, 55, and 63. I don't know how long the 6 is but the 7 was one of the hardest tests I have ever taken. it's practically like hazing, because there is so much crap info you need to learn just for the test that you never use in real life. the 7 is done in 2, 3-hour sessions. if the 6 is done like this then be ready for a marathon. has your firm that is sponsoring you not provided you any study material? mine gave me everything I needed to prepare. get the dearborn study materials if they haven't given you anything and REPEATEDLY drill over the practice tests. even then that may not cover every question you will be asked. the 63 I studied for in 4 days and passed by 1 question because I took it too lightly.
Thanks for the info ... they provided me with the Dearborn study guide... the series 6 will be 100 questions and I need a 70 to pass so it wont be nearly as hard as the 7 which I too heard was a really hard test not just in terms of material but length. I guess my biggest fear is not passing cause I think the wait period to take the exam again is 1 month. Must think positive. Thanks again for the info.
I've taken the Series 65. I used Dearborn books for that. The practice cd in the back of the book is pretty good practice.
I've passed the Series 7 & 63 and you're lucky that you don't have to take the 7. As for the 63, it is the most boring material I have ever studied, but it is also very easy. I crammed for it in one afternoon and passed it the next morning. It's just plain memorization, that's it.
