Don't worry about Gay making the all-star team. I hooked him up with Eddie Griffin's ex-girlfriend. She said he doesn't have a shot.
Make that twice....in the same season. I'm as a big a fan of Amare as the next guy, but I think we tend to forget that most athletic freaks(even by NBA standards) tend to lose their effectiveness after major surgeries. Shawn Kemp and the old run n gun Sonics comes to mind. Of course Kemp also had motivational issues after he found out this point, but the point is players who dominate solely because of their atheltic ability normally have a short NBA shelf life because they never learn how to adapt their game when injuries/age catch up to them. I like what Amare does on the court and as a player he seems like a good teammate, but I haven't seen him do too many things that would suggest he's he has the mental acuity to do more when his body doesn't give him the advantages they once did.
I don't remember anyone questioning any of those guys' heart or work ethic. I know there have been good players many people passed on, but comon guys, it doesn't happen often. Gay has all the physical tools to become a great player, but something is holding him back.
Tim Thomas is awesome. He was clutch in the playoffs this year, and also played very well with Sam with the Bucks. You guys think Tim Thomas sucks because of his Knicks play. Well, everyone sucks with the Knicks. Gay at worst = Harold Minor
From what I have gathered from this post: Rudy Gay will be the next: LeBron James Shawn Marion James Posey Tim Thomas Rudy Gay will be a good player. Who knows how good he can be at this time? I will wait a week and see him at least play in summer league before I make a decision. I am just happy to get out of the last 2 years of Battier's contract.
Thats not the point the point is that even though gay was highly touted which all of those guys were not he still fell that tells you that he didnt just slip through the cracks their is something wrong with his game! We dont know what and the reason J west still took him is because he didnt work out and he didnt interview for them so they dont know what all those other 8 teams saw!
Let's not get carried away with CV. He averaged decent scoring numbers for a rookie on a terrible team, but I think most Toronto fans would be quick to point out that he wasn't very consistent and he didn't even attempt to play defense 95% of the time last year....
Has anyone ever questioned Kobe's heart and competitiveness? Completely different reason people passed on Kobe.
Hey guys, I've got my own question too. What if Maciej Lampe turns out to be the next Bill Walton? To me it seems he has perennial allstar written all over him. This could be a black mark on the Hornets for many years to come.
They questioned T-Mac and Vince Carter's heart and commitment. Granted, he was a high schooler, but I don't think there's much difference between a high school senior and a freshman. I'm not saying Rudy Gay will definitely be a star or even a starter. He may very well be a bust. But he's not the first one to be passed on for these accusations.
MemphisX, you're joking, right?? Battier has a good contract relative to his value, IMO. Good for the team that has him, regardless of whether the trade was an even one or not.
I would also have to remember that it has been reported that that is why Toronto was willing to trade Charlie V - they still didn't buy his effort/heart.
If he is, we will be the laughing stock of the league for as long as there is this league. If he is the next Eddie Griffin, this trade will be mentioned as one of the smartest thing CD does as the manager of Rocket. Let's not play what if games. Move on.
I guess this thread starts to make people feel better about the trade. Good I hope so. So why I started this thread. On my way to work, a report came in that Lebran James was going to make up his mind on the extension the Cavs are offering him. And I thought, would the Rockets have drafted LeBron since we are in a win now mode. Basically CD said that he wanted a to draft a guy that would be playing considerable minutes. I watched Rudy Gay play in a few college games, outside the George Mason game. I thought he was a pretty dominant player. He definately made many impressive plays in the half court and open court. Yes it is more likely that he will be bust rather than an MVP candidate but aleast he was in the discussion for the top pick in this years draft and very well could have been the #3 pick. Obviously he has talent.
No I am not. I didn't want to be paying $7 million per for a guy coming off the bench getting 6-8 points and 3-5 rebounds. In 3 years, Shane=Juwan 2006
If we're still here in 3 years, I'll bet you'll still be missing Battier in Memphis, and that he's more valuable to the Rocks then, than Juwan is to the Rocks now. $20 for the tip jar? We can let Clutch decide.
