So, it seems we're content on letting the big name FA sign elsewhere. Personally, I am tired of the Rockets signing guys with a limited shelf life like Mike James, Juwan Howard, Bobby Sura, David Wesley. I am glad we got Shane Battier for one, but we need to get longer, stronger, and definately more athletic. So, instead of going for the big splash like Al Harrington, which I would love to play PF for us, but it ain't gonna happen. So, can't we try to add guys like Marquis Daniels, Steven Hunter, Maurice Evans, Ronald Dupree, Trevor Ariza, Flip Murray, Mickael Pietrus (long shot), Rashual Butler, Qyntel Woods, Travis Outlaw. I would even be willing to add Darius Miles,Quentin Richardson, or Jamal Crawford. I am just tired of watching the type of basketball the Rockets play. I wish we would play more like the Suns or Mavericks. Maybe we could add Rick Adelman to our coaching staff and institute the Princeton offense.
Yeah, because when I think potential star material, I think Qyntel Woods and his 4.1 ppg and 2.3 rpg career averages. Oh wait, he blew the doors off the league last season - his coming-out year with 6.7 ppg and 3.9 rpg.
You expect Lebron James or Wells, Maggette or the dozens of other players that are mentioned in the GARM, the Rox are broke asset wise. Qyntel Woods would be a good pickup for 1.5-2.5M, I hope we get him but he doesn't seem to be on anybodys radar in Houston.
I like him as a back up that can shoot the midrange jumper...he would be a perfect fit behind Yao. DD
I second that DD I think Mike would be a good fit. he might even be able to play some powerfoward every once in a while. His jumpshot is very under rated. What is his contract situation any way? If he could be had on the cheap I think he would be a good pickup.
we just have way too many old guys. i really like marquis daniels. that guy did really well against the rockets last year in the playoffs and didnt get too much playing time this year since of josh howards explosive year. i think we should trade wesley to dallas for daniels.
I agree with not wanting to sign players with a short shelf life, but apparently the attitude is win now. And with Mike James, he'll help us for 2-3 years, which hopefully, his contract will run out by then. We can't go young guns because we don't have the time to develop into a championship team like the Mavs did. And we can't go run and gun because our biggest pieces can't play that game. Besides, the Bulls were probably the last team that won a championship without a dominant post presence. I think the Rockets are moving in the right direction by sticking with the inside out formula. However, I would like to see Les shell out some green to get a legitimate 3rd "star".
we're going to have to find young, cheap help that has shown promise elsewhere. ex: i bet nobody thought boris was that good when phoenix got him... he rode the bench in atlanta! ariza, woods, or outlaw would be young, cheap, and have the potential to break out and be something more than just a role player!!
ariza was called delusional by larry brown, but the magic are high on him, and will probably re-sign him. woods, rockets won't outbid the knicks. isaiah wants to keep him on their roster. outlaw, portland just started their youth movement. blazers probably have him pencilled in already as their starter, as they look for ways to move darius miles.
Even if Ariza,Woods and Travis Outlaw don't develop into anything more than role players they are young, athletic, have some decent skills and are relatively cheap options. Ariza is however restricted and Portland may not want to trade Outlaw but Woods has been behaving well and is unrestricted. I'm not suggesting using the MLE on him but if we can't get anyone then it might be worth looking at him or R.Butler along with V.Span if he is willing to come to the U.S. this year.
I like Ariza and Woods as well. I would have loved Maurice Evans, but the Pistons already gave him away to the Lakers on draft night. One guy I think the Rockets might be on a collision course with is Deshawn Stevenson. He's not much of a shooter, but he is tall (6'5") and athletic and is a good perimeter defender. If we somehow have the MLE after getting James, he'd be a good addition for a portion of it.
I understand the whole win now attitude, but you also want to invest in the future as well. Plus, by adding James doesn't even guarantee us a playoff birth if you look at what NO is doing. The way I see it: 1. Dallas 2. Phoenix 3. San Antonio 4. Clippers 5. Kings 6. Lakers 7. Memphis 8. ???????? (Denver/NO/Utah/Houston) So we might want to build for the future because we aint gonna win it any time soon.
