Ponder this thought for a moment. If MJ truely wants to play for the Rockets, JVG was at his doorstep at 1 minute past the start of free agency, CD was talking to his agent shortly there after, & Houston knows that Dallas has already offered their MLE, then what's the holdup? I smell a rat in the house. We've gone through this on more than one occasion, & in every instance, we've been left holding the bag. An empty bag. I think he's holding out for more money in a S&T deal, which puts us at a disadvantage in competing with Dallas. The only semi-tradeable player that we have is Head. Would you rather have Head (6'3" 185lbs.) or Marquis Daniels (6'6" 200lbs.)? Statistically they are about the same. And of course, Dallas has other players that could be offered up. I think we're being played & will be left holding the empty bag again. We've already missed out on Claxton & Cassell. We do this every year, & still, what are we waiting on?
I don't want Mike to sign with Dallas so that is almost reason enough to do whatever it takes to sign him but if he were to sign with Portland than I wouldn't be majorly upset provided we split the MLE with Banks and Spanoulis. The way it works now unless we find some way to do a SnT with toronto for James we will be very limited in who else we acquire outside of James.
We have nothing offer to do a S&T with Toronto. Dont forget Head only make 1M next season. But I dont think Dallas are willing to give up Daniels just for James.
The holdup would be the amount of years on Mike's contract. He wants 5 years, Dallas prefers three, and so would the rockets. Rockets have alreadt offered the MLE to him though so only time will tell. Nothing can be official until july 12 though.
Cassell was never an option. Neither party was interested and the Clips had his full Bird Rights. If we'd have signed Cassell, our entire FA season was completed. (Unless you think Alston or Howard appeals to the Clipps). Whereas with James there is still the possibility of a SnT leaving us the full MLE. ATL is well under the cap and we were never in that ball game either. It's not James holding things up. We have the larger issue of trying to entice TOR into a SnT. I was among the first to say James would be back and 8 months later I'm not changing my mind. Patience.
I feel re-assured James will re-sign after hearing how T-Mac is doing his part in convincing him to come back. At this point it just comes down to money. We should know by friday if he is a Rocket or not.
Yeah, that's what I thought as well. But I can't see anyone else getting involved and throwing more money/years other than the two parties and given that Houston seems to have a connection with him, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up a Rocket. BTW: Dallas already offered a SnT deal to Toronto involving Daniels and was rejected. That's why they resorted to the MLE waiting game.
I doubt it. I just get the feeling that James is talking up the Rockets so he can get a bigger payday.
no way he's going to portland or atlanta. I doubt minnesota are a concern (dont forget how cold it gets there) so im pretty confident unless of course dallas steals him. Nooooooooooo
please people - get V-Span out of your heads. he's gonna stay for 1 year while Greece is hosting that EuroLeague Cup. it is 85+ % chance that he's staying 1 more year to win that championship. right now, instead, we need to be concerned with bonzi, jeffries, banks, cato, padgett, miles, and of course james.
No way Mike James plays for the Rockets... Why would he come to a bad team unless for the money... We gave away our tradeable players and will be in no way shape or form even in the running for James... You are fooling yourselves... I will make a bet with any of you people that think he will be... According to Diaw's post in another thread, we can actually use the 4.2M TE and sign James to a starting salary of 5.25M instead of the MLE and then still have the MLE to use. We'd do this by using the TE +25% rule. Go CD, this would be a great pickup for us. We could then use the MLE for a taller SG and PF.
How long has James and his wife been married? I'll give my sig for a month to the first poster that comes up with this data. They have three kids. If they have a solid marriage, she'll ask him to pick Houston and he probably will because of family reasons. If she's from Houston, there's a high likelihood that she can't stand Dallas, like most of us. CD and Van gundy need to get the wives and gf's to recruit Mrs James.
No what is stupid is people that keep trying to build up the offseason year after year and watching management continue to destroy our hopes and dreams... I am tired of it and no longer will support this team with the current management... Mike James my a$$...
I'll be happy if he signs, but I won't hold my breath, cuz this front office just sucks! This team has still way too much holes & hopefully JVG will be fired, along with Morey eel after this season, which will be most likely the same, hope I'm wrong! Les Alexander should grow some balls once in a while & not put up with this crap, since our back2back championship, how many play-offs have we played in , not many for my likings!
If you are so certain just make it a statement. If James signs with the Rockets then you don't post on this board again. A voluntary IP ban of course.
