I'm sitting here right now, (should take my wife out somewhere) and TN apparently has a love allure for fireworks bigtime...

It sounds like a war zone outside my bedroom window...I'm getting all jumpy...I'm not sure to grab the Bushmaster M16 and ready for home defense or something the way it sounds...

How much have yall spent? Still fun? Excitement?...or waste of money...
    thoughts?

BTW happy July 4th to all...stay safe...

FUN! You can NEVER spend too much money on fireworks. I have a huge scar on the right side of my chest from a roman candle war. And a only a few weeks ago I had to capsize a boat cuz a drunk buddy through something big, loud, and fiery onto the boat near my foot. Drinks and fireworks. Awesome. Thats awesome...

You bastards find some place remote to fire off your damn fireworks. I'm tired of picking up your bottle rockets off of my roof and yard!!

Hopefully not straight into the air, thus killing small children.

That usually happens in Houston once a year.

As to the original question, yes, worth spending the money. Only go for good stuff though, don't waste money on the little stuff.

anyone who says "waste of money" is a communist, just to let y'all know.

i don't spend a ton (maybe $80 combined for my sister and me) b/c our street usually has block parties and there are a few big spenders on the street who get the big time stuff. i specialize in saturn missiles. i'm always the first on the street to get the new biggest size they have. bought a 300 shot (5 rows of 60) saturn missile thing 2 years ago, the first row went off like normal, then the final 4 rows, 240 missiles, went off in under 2 seconds. it was insane, basically whole rows just went off simulataneously.

also love to get the big roll of 1500 black cats. if they go off right it's amazingly loud for about one minute straight.

not sure if we're having the block party this year, which would suck. the big spenders also get a lot of the smaller stuff as well so you can have a few hours worth of fireworks with everyone's stuff combined and just spread out when you use yours. plus there's always some nice finales. last year my nieghbor who loves to spend her husband's money got a little drunk (as usual) and after seeing a big saturn missile thing just gave us a hundred dollar bill and told us to go buy more of the same. that was nice.

Mythbusters just did an episode on this. If you point the gun straight up (at a perfect 90 degree angle) the bullets will fall harmlessly to the ground. But firing at any angle can be lethal.

Tonight I'm in Boston, but last night I was in Montreal where they have the international fireworks competition all summer long. Every Sunday another country does their display, and last night was Argentina's turn. Un-fricking-real. Every fireworks display I've ever seen combined didn't equal what I witnessed last night. Seeing as it wasn't my money (other than the cost of tickets to the park), I'd say that fireworks are worth every flippin penny.

Its fun at first, but then afterwards, it feels like a waste of money.

Kinda like spending $200 on lap dances, only to have to go home and take a cold shower.

    Both!

I'm amazed at what you can buy today. I love the semi-pro ones (ball in a tube) and they actually don't cost too much per shot. They sure have come a long way from the firecraker, bottle rocket, whisling chaser, buzz bomb, snakes era. And I just missed the cherry bomb, M-80 era by a couple of years. My dad tells some good stories about that era.

I actually prefer the little stuff. I get several of the little tanks and like to arrange them in ways where they set each other off/on fire. I'm a big fan of the saturn missiles too, for whoever mentioned that. The place I bought fireworks at this year had an 800 shot Saturn Missile. I think it cost $175 by itself. I'd never buy something like that, but it must be a hell of a thing to see.
