Does anyone know if the Rockets have anyone coming out of contract that they have birds right to? E.g. Wesley, Lampe, Bowen (if he opts out) or Bogans. If so, we don't need to give up Stro (whom I think is one of the very few trade pieces we have - surely we can use him in some other trade?). We can simply sign this player to Battier's salary and trade him to Memphis. Example: If Rockets have Bogan's birds rights, and they want to keep him next season, they can: 1) Sign him to whatever salary Battier has right now (for salary matching purposes with Memphis) 2) Trade Bogans and Gay to Memphis for Battier 3) Have a wink wink deal with Memphis such that Memphis cuts Bogans straight away (hey, there must be a price for getting Gay, right? Plus Memphis don't want Stro anyway, right? They pay Bogans for 1 year) 4) We resign Bogans for the minimum, since he is already being paid by Memphis (require wink wink deal here too, but he will do it for the pay rise...) Win-win all round, no? Memphis gets Gay without needing to take on Stro, Bogans gets a pay rise (come on, who is going to give Bogans the full mid level anyway?) and the Rockets? We get to keep Bogans for cheap, and also keep Stro for potential trades down the line. I believe Stro's contract is only 3 years anyway, right? So worst case, next year we have an athletic expiring contract to trade. Just trying to make the best of a bad situation... Can we do this instead of the Stro and Gay for Battier trade?
Why would Memphis do this? There are many good trades you can think of. But a successful trade takes two to tango
it was the Rockets that wanted Swift included in the deal. They obvoiously don't think that they can grt anything for him.
Keep in mind also that S&T Wesley, Bogans, etc. means the Rockets are taking on salary when they are already nearing the probably LT threshold. I'm inclined to think that they're trying to keep costs down.
Just some quick comments: Memphis will do this because: They want Gay and don't want to take on Swift's contract again. After all, they let him go in the first place. Houston do this because they need to win now, and having Swift as a trade bait is better than not having Swift as a trade bait? After all, if their main concern is to stay under the cap, then they would have kept Gay. Rookie contract for 5 years for a guy who could be a potential star... now, that's cheap!
The only explanation for throwing in Swift in the Gay for Battier trade is that Swift has next to zero trade value. Value-wise Gay for Battier is debatable (high potential vs average sure thing). But if Swift has any value, the trade looks lobsided. If Gay and Battier have similar value, Houston only needs to throw in some scrubs like Bogans or some other players to make the contracts work. Or Memphis can throw in some draft picks to balance Swift's value. As of now, the only conclusion we can make is that Swift has no value. He is just a throw-in to balance Battier's contract.
I can't believe how many of you are still in denial. Given that the Grizz play in the FED EX FORUM the management team of Fed Ex was probably so ecstatic they sent a private courier with the paperwork before the last pick of the draft was even selected. The ink was dry a long time ago. Move on.
I can not post, so let' s see gay's TV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCso8qP_Mm4&search=Rudy Gay and see the fans comments
Guys, stop basing this on fan boy perceptions. The Grizzlies never wanted to lose Swift and they wanted him back. And if you doubt this, you must not have seen them against Dallas in the playoffs. Swift is in the deal because he has the same salary as Battier and because Memphis wanted him.
Mempis don't like Swift but they do like his trade value. I am sure they will trade him for something after they get him. That's why they don't want Howard or other fillers because Swift is the only Rox role player has positive trade value.
That video, more than another other that I've seen over the past few days, makes me want to puke. The part that actually gets me the worst is when he's beating his chest and yells "Let's go!". The guy has passion, he's just quiet most of the time. Nobody says Tim Duncan sucks because he LOOKS disconnected on the court most of the time. I don't want to hear "but Duncan took games over" either. He simply HAD to assert himself because he was much better than his teammates. On the other hand, Connecticut was filled with talent. I'm not trying to rhyme, but Gay will make us pay.
If YOU don't want Bogans, what makes you think Memphis will? I swear, my sig has exponentially become truer ever since draft night.
