It appears that the first two shocks in NBA free agency will emanate from Serbia.

Indiana forward Peja Stojakovic, widely considered a lock to re-sign with the Pacers, is on the verge of a jump to the upstart New Orleans Hornets, ESPN.com has learned. NBA front-office sources indicate that the Hornets are offering Stojakovic a five-year deal in the $60 million range.

Sources also tell ESPN.com that the Los Angeles Lakers are close to swiping a player from their co-tenants in the Staples Center, but it's not Clippers guard Sam Cassell. The Lakers, sources said, were inching closer Saturday night to a verbal agreement with Clippers sharpshooter Vladimir Radmanovic on a five-year deal starting at the $5 million mid-level exception and worth in excess of $30 million.

Hmm. It might be like watching the Hornets of old when Glen Rice would torch opponents. But Rice was better.

    man...

all these guys are already signing with other teams!!! i mean i knew we didn't have the money for the best guys, but all this just shows us that the rockets CAN'T pull a great offseason out of their ass. :(

Damn I am suprised Shinn would spend money to bring in Peja. Also suprised Peja would sign with them considering they have no Serbian players. Radman is overated. Bad signing for the Lakers IMO.

Dude Rockets don't have the money to sign Peja. Rockets are going after Mike James. Calm down. Its only the first day you can start talking to free agents. IMO, Tim Thomas and Vlad Man are both overated.

They are overpaying Peja. Nobody else would come close to that. He is worth LESS than Jason Terry, not more. Baaaaad mistake for the Hornets. Add in the fact he's injury prone.

Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy? $12MM/yr for the biggest choker in the NBA?

Yeap we are going to the crapper and the ensemble of mcgrady and yao will be a waste. If people think we are going to win championships with the likes of role players as in Battier, Bowen, Howard. They are being fooled by their conviction towards the organization. I was born and raised a Rockets fan but they way things are going now makes it hard to keep going. When you can watch the mavericks go from laughing stock to powerhouse kind of makes you wonder why aren't we doing that as well ?

That's WAAAAAAAAAAY too much to pay for Peja; the Hornets can rest assured that no one will even come close to making a similar offer.

On the other hand, that's quiet a bargain for Radmanovic, who IMO would be as valuable as Stojakovic.

i agree with you, but it looks like tim thomas is out and vlad rad and i wanna say another PF is probably out of reach... oh yeah chris wilcox! i doubt we could afford him too.

i am just saying the options are not plentiful and these guys are signing fast which makes it a player's market from here on out. we may end up overpaying for someone we don't want if our options run too thin...

Peja in New Orleans is a good fit because West and Paul take all the big shots for them. Damn the SW Division is going to be a monster.

exactly... i'm suprised that no one mentioned that this would make our division that much tougher. i mean... i still believe in our team, but... an injury here... an injury there... and not necessarily for long stretches... the rox could still be on the outside looking in.

carroll, jeff, dennis, morey, les... gtfm!

For the hornets to get a shooter like peja 60 million is good. Add peja and two young big men from the draft and that looks like a playoff team to me... david west as a 3rd option is pretty damn good.

Houston teams should just stop playing their seasons. Evidently, fans of all three teams don't actually understand that the games need to be played before you can call it a success or failure.
