Look at our rivals. We need more depth to compete with them!!

    This is my feeling.
    2nd Round or bust
the regular season record is really not important
as getting to the 2nd round

If we are in WIN NOW mode
just playing well [looking like a *team* - whatever that means]
    doesn't mean a thing
cause then the next year everyone is a year older
    and maybe a step slower

I figure we have entered the 3 yr window
If we don't make the championship in those 3 yrs
Mac will be on the slide and will need a new young horse
    to pair with Yao . . .
One we will WISH we had been developing over the last 3 yrs

I think if we're patient with this and give Yao and Mcgrady more than 1yr of playing time together, we will like what happens. Yao and Mcgrady were arguably the best combo in the league their very first year together. Let's give our two superstars more than 1 full year of work together and improvement will come from our two superstars gaining more chemistry together. That west coast road trip right before Yao went down, our two superstars were soley responsible for that franchise record setting sweep. They did something no Rocket team had done before and swept all those road games during that west coast trip. Then boom. Yao. Then Mcgrady. Then the lottery. But that west coast trip, remember it, because that's how good Mcgrady and Yao are together and thats how good this team can be and how much this team can improve with the additions of Battier and James.

The Rockets put the future on hold to win NOW!! That means a championship and nothing less.

how about 60 wins? i mean, have the rockets ever been a great regular season team? we've never hit 60...

how else do you strike fear in your opponents? when you bring in that kind of record, then other teams get nervous.

i would agree with DaDakota on the 2nd round, but we need to make it back first... i don't think it will be as easy to immediately think second round when we missed the playoffs last year, then make all these roster changes, and hope our two stars stay healthy.

a great regular season record and a playoff berth would do it for me.

The regular season is nothing if we get dusted in the 1st round

Agreed. WCF (at least) or bust! Anything less would be a disappointment for me.

I don't really care how many we win as long as its enough to make it to the playoffs. Some division wins would be nice. But most importantly, a team that is completly healthy come playoff time.

Playoff is a minium. Home field advantage is the next goal (4th seat or better). 2nd round is next.

Beating the other Texas teams in the regular season (win the series) to show this Team must be feared in the playoffs would be great. I sure don't mind going to the WCF or to the Chapmionship but that would be way out there in the odds table.

    Absolutely and without hestitation..NOT ENOUGH.

This is only the short version.

We let Padgett go...we dumbly let Mike James go...we blundered through Derrick Anderson and Stromile Swift...and we got taken to the cleaners value wise for Battier.

Anytime you have Yao and TMac...you're a playoff team. Success...both for players and especially for management should be measured by more than playoffs. Playoffs is the floor...NOT the ceiling.

You're like an abused wife who takes her husband back after every violation.

I was willing to give them time. That was before draft day. If they don't have time to let Rudy Gay develop, then the fans don't have time for them to win.

F*ck Van Gundy. And I was his biggest supporter from day one. If they don't make the 2nd round next year, I want his ass out of here.

My happy benchmark would be winning at least two games in the second round. I don't want them just to make it, I want them to make it a series.

The thing is that it should be easier to make the second round now that the false ranking system is gone. So we no longer are guaranteed to play the second best team in the West or something like that (I think we should have the fourth best record after SA, Dallas, and Phx - unless Amare has the "Webber effect" for this year and they drop down a little).

Anything less than the 2nd round would be a disappointment. WCF are possible, though probably not likely until the team acquires or develops more depth or gets a better PF. I'd be shocked if we made the finals.

Double Bogey: First round exit. Van Gundy should be fired.

Bogey: Second round fodder. Means we're nowhere close to matching up with SA, DAL or PHX. Van Gundy should probably be fired, but won't be.

Par: push second round to game 6, minimum.

Birdie: WCF, regardless of result. (We need one more year to pick up a decent 4).

    Eagle: Finals appearance.

hey i want the same thing as you! and i kind of am like an abused wife who keeps letting my husband back because he's so rich and good looking and i'm not sure if i can do better (mcgrady and yao!!)! :D

but mcgrady has never been out of the first round and neither has the rest of the team really. considering that it will take more than one appearance in the playoffs to cut your teeth and get hungry, a realistic goal is all i am asking for to keep me going. second round would be icing on the cake for me. and if we win a championship, i will blow a load

let's be honest guys... if we get out of the first round, we're all going to be surprised. the best teams are usually a little older and the next few years are going to be the rockets best as yaomac gets even better. but let's not get hasty!

i am trying so hard to not just say F%$@ the ROCKETS after that trade!!
