According to ESPN, he is asking for 2 year 15 million from the clips and the clips want to give him a 1 year deal. Why not give Sam a 3 year deal at the MLE. That would come in at around 15 million, and even if he only plays 2 years, it would be worth it. I can't think of a better point guard in the league at playing with a big man. I know he is old, but if we are talking about winning now. I can't think of anyone better.
Just to see Sam end his carrier in Houston I'd do what ever it took but of course this is from a fans opinion...
can he co-exist with jvg? dunleavy's straight talking seems to go with cassell's personality. i'd hate to see another season wasted because cassell can't deal with jvg's bs.
I never was big on Sam coming back when people were talking about it during this past season, but now it seems like a much better idea for some reason. He's the perfect 3rd scorer while still getting everyone else involved and is a very low chemistry risk. He's been through the fire many times, is as clutch as they come, and of course the connection to our championships would immediately make him a fan favorite. He also immediatly sends Rafer to backup PG, which gives us one of if not the best PG roation in the league. I'd give him the MLE.
sam may be a good choice if we are in the win now mode. but that window to use cassell is only about 2 years and he is going to cost an arm and a leg for the rox.
I'm afraid Sam may not have as much left in the tank as everyone thinks. He had a great year with the Clips and did well in several playoff games but I he's at the point where his production could fall off a cliff next season. That's probably why the Clips only want to give him a one year deal. (Well, that plus a guy named Shaun Livingston).
The big problem is that JVG has difficulty working with players that have strong personalities and are so dominating . Sam likes to be incharge --Sam I am---
Sam's abilty to be a pro when the title is on the line cannot be questioned. The only question here is money.Wiill he take a little less?Ultimately I believe the answer to be yes.Sam has a home here, will have a tax advantage, and will have a chance at another title.Besides, wherelse and howelse should he finish his career?
Would a Cassell for Alston trade work? Only downside is Cassell is very old but I don't think the Rockets are concerned with what the team will look like in two years either.
Do it! Do it! Without question I would try and land SAM . Maybe promise him a no trade clause in his deal. To have Sam Cassell end his career as a Houston Rocket would be AWESOME. Without him we wouldn't of won back to back titles. If the Rockets say they want to win now with veteran players then no question Sam has that veteran quality. As long as we assure him he ends his career here I think he would love to be on the Rockets. He's still productive, look at what he did for the CLIPPERS. To offer Mike james a long contract at age 31 would be a bad decision. And thats probably the only reason he'de sign with us along with the fact that he still lives in houston. back to Cassell we have Rafer Alston so that would clear any doubts of Sam playing too much and wearing down. Both would share the minutes. I like the idea. I like it alot. A month ago I propose trying to snag Horry from the spurs so he could end his career here too. Sure would be hella old but if our mentality is to win now while supplying veteran role players you cant go wrong with Horry/Cassell. ps I'm a bit delusional if not senitmental.
everyone talking about wanting to get young and yall still want to sign Sam. He does not have much left in the tank IMO.
