Good move for both teams. In the long run this move will benefit both players and teams. It will be interesting to see how Toronto and the Bucks will play next year now. I think both players will thrive in their respective situations.
It's kinda funny that the team he dominated against traded for him. And anyone that says he's overrated has no idea what their talking about. 48 points in one game, how many rookies do you see pulling that off? Not many! That is the most by one rookie since Iverson through down 50.
Tony Delk once scored 53 points in a game, so a great single scoring game doesn't prove anything. Villanueva definitely has promise, but he's far from a sure thing. He falls in love with his (mediocre) jumpshot a lot and consistency is a major buzzword for him. I mean the next two nights after going off for 48 pts, he shot a combined 6 for 25, and had a 4 pt game.
Yea, I live in Canada too, so I sort of follow the Raptors. And its a good trade. No Doubt CV will improve this upcoming season. But the raptors were really missing a good solid distributor as a PG. But I wouldnt really classify Villanueva as a big man anyways, since he sure loves to take jumpers. And plus, whenever i saw him play he never played his back to the basket. So for the Raptors, it's good. They get to be more consistent. And the bucks, I think they got more firepower. In order to get ahead, I think Raps need a better swingman/shooter/scorer.
Hey, wonder why they have to trade to T.J.Ford, the PG while they have the point guard in James? Now, If Raptors do not want James, why would the Rox want James as the PG? At best, James is a backup PG.
in addition to "Buckets" Delk, Acie Earl once scored 50 as a Celtic. aaahh, who remembers the rotund Earl? those struggling may remember him as a member of the Bucks in 97 scrapping with Vin Baker in a hotel room.
I think the trade makes a lot of sense for Toronto. TJ is a young 23 who is already a capable distributer, excellent penetraitor (in a league where this is increasingly important), and tons of upside. They have two other young bigs with greater upside than Charlie. For Milwalkee, kind of weird. They already had 4 decent bigs (PF, C) and now they are light at PG, set up guys, and penetraitors. But if they can move Magloire or Joe Smith for young talent and picks than it makes complete sense. So I think the value/upside is about right. Right now I like the fit more for the Raps.
Toronto is young, but outside of Bosh (who is a really nice player) and this Bargnani kid, who do they have on the bench that can help them in the frontcourt? They should have kept Charlie. I don't like the fit at all for Toronto. They are putting a lot of faith in two young players down low with nothing behind them, and neither one is very physical. Bargnani is very much a finesse player. Villanuava was the only banger they had. UGH! I will say that Ford is a good pickup, but that was a HUGE blow to their front line.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on June 29th mentioned 2 trades, a trade involving Maglorie to the Wizards and a 2nd surprise trade. We see the surprise. I wonder who they are trying to get. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=445125
This is like the Battier trade, while this will definately help out the Raptors, they could have definately gotten more for CV. TJ is a good player but he is only one bad fall away from been out of the league.
I think the Bucks really liked what they saw in Charlie Bell last year when he got some minutes so they figured they'd give up one of them (Ford, Bell, Williams) to get help at a weak position (SF/PF). I personally like the trade for both teams.
This is a good move for both teams. For the Bucks it gives them a young big that can bang down low but also stretch the defense and give more room for Bogut. They are going to trade Magloire to probably get some guard depth behind Bell. Toronto needed a pass first PG and they got it in Ford. Now they can look to either resign James to give them a nice offensive boost off the bench or use him to trade for some help elsewhere.
