Could we still get Brandon Roy if we take on Miles' contract?

    JH + Head + 07 2nd round draft = Darius Miles + Brandon Roy

CD tried his best to get higher draft poistion to get Roy, but all those efforts failed.

At least 2 agreements made by CD before draft are clear now:

    1. rockets #8 pick + someone else or cash for #6 of Timberwolves

Timberwolves do not need Brandon Roy( they already have ricky), they more interested in Foye. That explains why the "trade down" with Blazers happened.

    2.#8+SS for Battier
it was protected by a 5 names list (in case anyone in the list still available in #8, the agreement failed automatically). Foye was included for trade with Timberwolves, however, Gay, who was supposed in top 3 was not included in the list.

Roy isn't leaving the Blazers. The whole point of the Telfair trade was so they could control the top 7 picks, get Roy and another player from the elite 6. And since JVG is apparently managing this team as well, we aren't trading for a knucklehead in Miles.

McMillan was interested in Roy from Day 1 according to rumors. He got 2 very good players in Aldridge and Roy, I don't think they are going to deal Roy just to get rid of a bad contract.

Sure the Blazers want to move Miles and Randolph.

There is no way they add Roy into the deal.

I would do a Jho for Miles trade, then hope to land a PF via MLE or TE.

It seems to me that the Rockets are trying to be more cautious about managing their payroll and keep the albatrosses off. That's why we gave Swift away for less than nothing and why we won't touch Miles with a 10-foot pole.

To me though, what's the point? We're never going to be under the salary cap as long as we have both McGrady and Yao. I don't know the numbers, but I would be surprised if the Rockets were even in the top 10 of the NBA's payroll. You build depth through the draft and using your exceptions. As one of the original JVG supporters, he is finally starting to wear thin on me. If the Rockets stumble this year, I will gladly appreciate edc's threads.

At this point I am certain we are NOT trading juwan Howard. He is one of those "JVG" guys.

I'm wondering if there was also a "character" issue with Stro which was a factor also...a team is only as strong as it's weakest member.

I applaud management for trying to win now...who knows how long TMAC's back will allow him to play.

This gives us one-three years to hopefully compete for a championship, I also believe if TMAC is forced (god-forbid) to retire early due to his back we would have plenty of space to pursue another star via free agency and keep the ball rolling.

Some of the best moves are also the most unpopular with the fans. We should try to keep the faith at least until the off season moves are complete and we see what we have to work with next year.

We simply got outsmarted by Portland. McMillan wanted Roy from day 1, remember Webster is not his SG, he went to Portland after last year draft.

Man...I just wish they didn't put that 19 year age limit in...that is what kept up from getting one of our 5 players we wanted. :(

His age and big contract render him virtually untradeable. They appear to be stuck with him.

Roy will be an all-star and JVG blew it by winning against Minnesota late in the season.

    .........doubt it.

From what I read, Portland actually offered us #4 and Miles for Howard and #8 and we refused it. I would bet part of the deal was an agreement not to take Roy, whom Portland wanted also, with the 4th pick. Portland was wanting to do the deal with Minny to get him and they figured out a way to make it happen. Can't see him going nowheres now. Now, they can figure out how to peddle off Miles to Zeke, probably for QRich and junk.

Forget Roy. With their sagging PR situation, Portland had to come out of this draft with either Morrison or Roy. They got Roy. End of story.

    Who's Ricky?

Any interest from us in Martell Webster now that they have Roy?

    I dont think so.
Miles will cost 8 Millions of Houston.
    My idea like this.
    Howard + Sura (+ 07 2nd round draft ) = Roy + Miles.
