yes i think our management is that stupid!! it happen all the time .. one team gets screwed up the a$$ and sadly this time its us! how about tractor traylor for dirk nowitzki.. or Divac for Kobe!!!!!! this is going to be a divac for kobe type trade 2 years from now... damn West.. he does it again.. steals a young upcoming talent for a middle aged role player. oh well.. we got SCREWED... if it wasnt for tmac or yao. i wouldnt watch a single rockets game this upcoming seasn.. damn CD and JVG.. especially JVG.. truly hate him with a passion now.. and i was one of his biggest supporters..
well kobe, tmac and wade, lebron, carmelo ,amare (straight out of high school!) yao.. to name a few list goes on and on were ready to contribue by their 2nd season.... amare was just a freak athletically .. kinda of like gay. and he put up 14 pts 9 rebs in his rookie year!!!!!!!!! i believe amare also slipped in the draft... becasue the previous high school pf was busy (kwame brown) so amare slipped and the suns picked him up at 9th!!! close to 8th... and look at the steal he was!! damn i just have a feeling gay is going to do that and win roy.. then we can just all shoot our selves.. damn **** CD AND JVG
yup so people have to stop justifying this crappy move much like what shroopy2 said too.. . cause their are plenty of players in gays situation and draft that contributed right away!! the only thing is van dumb ass cant coach...
The other 7 Lottery Picks from Uconn also were big contributors in their rookie years: Charlie Villanueva Emeka Okafor Ben Gordon Caron Butler Rip Hamilton Ray Allen Donyell Marshall
I know this is the worst trade ever!!! What is wrong with CD, gay could of been the number 1 pick and the rockets were lucky enough for him to draft all the way to 8th and now they trade him for Battier!?!? This is so wrong, I dont think i would do swift for battier let alone arguably the best prospect in the draft. WOW i am totally sickened by this Jerry west jsut played CD like a fool.
Yea i understand what battier brings to the rockets but boy did the rockets get rocked in this trade. They were soooooooo lucky to have gotten gay who was a potential #1 pick first of all. Also Gay is better than battier right from the start. The rockets need athleticism and scoring. They got just that in Rudy Gay. instead they pretty much lost all their athletism by giving away Gay AND Swift one of the msot athletic bigman in the league. This is why this deal makes no sense at all. WOW what a setback this is. Gay if not a star from day 1 will be a star very soon. Gay has the length and athleticism to be a great defensive player. He kind of reminds me of shawn marion he averaged nearly 2 steals and 2 blocks a game in college at sf u tell me thats not defense. To tell you the truth i dont know if i would do battier for jsut swift. i was hoping to see swift get the start at pf next season. This is extremely disapointing and i will remember this for a very long time.
I also noticed how some of you guys say "Well I doubt Gay is gonna be a superstar anyway, he was never able to take over games during college. So I guess Battier is a good trade." Point #1: We gave away TWO PLAYERS. TWO of our ONLY 3 tradeable assets. GET IT? Point #2: So what if Gay doesn't become a superstar? WE DON'T NEED A SUPERSTAR! We already have 2 of them! All we need is a decent to good player, which Gay at worst will turn out to be. Point #3: Gay doesn't NEED to take over games. We Have TMac and Yao to do that. Again STOP RATIONALIZING. THERE IS NOTHING POSITIVE ABOUT THIS TRADE. Unless of course, we are getting other players that have yet to be announced.
lol u truly hate him with a passion now...lol ... now thats something that we both have in common ...i been hating JVG with a passion ....
yes with a deep undying passion.. i hate you with all my guts JVG!! damn you for screwing this team up and makin it a slow unwatchable ugly game!!!! and to think i supported you for hte past 3 years. PSSS.. die VG DIE!!
good points all. i've had 24 hours to comprehend the situation, and i'm still struggling with it - although a healthy dose more relaxed today- i still dont like it. regarding points 2 and 3, it could be argued that Battier will be a definite contributor of some degree straight away. In the short term this might work out ok (and again seeing the back of Swift makes me smile) my concern looking at it now is more so for the long term. Although we dont need a superstar RIGHT NOW per se, we will be needing another one at some point. Battier will never be that player - there's a good chance Gay will be.
I know my opinion doesn't count for much and I know the majority of, ok, of ALL Rockets fans are very upset at the time being, but what I do know is that we will be ok. Thats right,RELAX, we are being taken care of. I myself totally agree that we should receive more than just Battier out of this trade, but at the same time I know for a fact that our management has something up their sleeves. Do you think they are completely out of their minds? While being a professional basketball team they are also a professional business that aims to please us as fans. Any sane person knows that for a business to be successful, they need to have a successful product, and that is exactly what they are working on right as we speak. So we had a horrible season, probably one of if not the most disapointing ever, but then we don't draft Gay and lose Stro and suddenly everyone and their mom believes that we are a subpar team??? That is rediculous. I have never seen so many pessimistic fans be so incredibly pessimistic. I even saw on one of the other posts that someone said that they were going to move to San Antonio. I am a new member of clutchfans, in fact this is my very first input and if this is the kind of community that we have then I am ashamed to say that I am a part of it. Where is your faith? Is everyone basing our team on this previous season, the season in which our two stars played only 30 games together?Do you not remember who we are? Do you remember that we have two of the most prolific players in the world on OUR team? Do you remember 13 points in 35 seconds? Do you remember a center who went off on opposing teams after his return from surgery? I don't know about you but seeing Yao give us just a glimpse of what is to come gave me chills. With those two I know that with the right moves between now and November, we have a chance to show the world what we are really made of and I hope that we all can forget our differences and just sit back and enjoy the ride...
What made you even THINK that we won't be contending with Gay (and Swift)? What makes you even THINK that we'd BE contending with Battier (minus Swift)? Why? Because Gay is not a superstar? Gay can't take over games? Honestly, with TMac and Yao, do we NEED another superstar to take over games for us?
So let me ask you this: HOW the heck do you add James and Wilcox with only the MLE to work with? We have only ONE tradeable asset left, and that is Head. And his salary is too low.
I wouldn't be surprised if West trades Swift to the Nets. They really wanted him. We could had gotten a good deal off Swift. How stupid has our management gone?? Not just Swift, but a guy full of potential.
I first apolize for this being so long...but I have to vent after feeling that this draft could make us championship contenders and following all the prospects since Feb, and the having this huge disappointment and reading all about it for 2 days. No doubt Battier makes this team better. But there are so many issues with this trade. 1st: 50 wins? 50 wins?? Last year Dallas and SA won 60...a 50 win season might seed us at 5 (if we are lucky). Not to mention the other two teams in our division are have Chris Paul and Pau Gasol with Rudy Gay (now). 50 wins is not championship level, and we will still be easy to beat in the playoffs. Yao and Tracy could still average 35 a game and no one else score and we would lose (oh wait...didnt the Mavs try that in 2005). We could have probably won 50 games we the same team we had this past year but healthy, not doing anything. 2nd: Rudy Gay will have la earning curve. Well, yes but he is young, athletic, and can play at both ends. He may have had motivation issues but that happens. He could have very well given us most of what Shane Battier will give us for the first 2 years, and then he could have improved. 3rd: Trading both of best trading assests for one player? I really don't understand this. I do realize maybe they didnt have a better offer, but if there was a previous agreement before the draft that is Gay was there then send him & Swift, it doesn't sound like he was shopped too much. I really believe that at least two quality role players (or maybe 1 quality starting role player, and 1 off the bench role player) could have been gotten for what we gave up. 4: Why get rid of Swift? He averaged 10/5 in 20 minutes. Had his best shooting year. He had as many rebounds as the previous year in fewer minutes. IF He HAD played starting minutes, he could have averaged 13/8 or better. Not to mention he played pretty well when both McGrady and Yao were in the game, which is why he was there as a 3rd option (not a 1st or 2nd). Yes, he made many bonehead plays, but we gave up on him too fast without really giving him a chance. Not to mention, the Swift/Howard Tag team averaged pretty well last year. I do realize they had to play more C because of Yao's injury, but when they were only at PF, they put up good enough numbers and played well. 5: Freeing up cap space?? For who, Peja? Bobby Jackson? Ben Wallace? Jason Terry? The cap space we got won't get us any really good player this year. Next year is when the great wave of free agents comes. This trade is a year too early. Lastly: I'm sick and tired of everyone saying they want to win now. I understand that. But the Rockets are not a 1 year fix. We have no dependable depth. We have no real 3rd offensive option. Battier is a hustle player and catch-shoot scorer. Alston's penetration can be stopped. Luther Head may get better, but not amazingly so. The Rockets need 2 years to build a team to legitmately win a championship. What about getting at least a 2007 2nd round pick with how loaded next year is supposed to be, or a 1st round pick. We could get more help from next years draft and a good free agent class. On this point too, I dont just want 1 Championship. I want the chance to win multiple titles, and I dont believe this trade helps with that I realize the entire trade may not have been released yet, but I doubt there is any other big pieces that have not been released. But for all those reasons, this trade does not make complete sense. If you read all of that, props to you. I'm still a Rockets fan, but that does not mean I have to agree with their personel decisions.
