No. You said you can "pretty much get the same" from Gay. But before prospects such as Kwame and Eddie supposedly had defense, blocking skills... but we learned that they had no hustle.

1.He is not one of the best defensive player. Has he selected to any 1st/2nd defensive team?

2.Swift maybe is not the kind of player we need. But 10ppg/5rpg and only 27 years can earn you 5M a year easily.
Even signing Swift was stupid, then what make you think this trade is not stupid?

3.How about couple of years later Gay becomes an allstar and we dont need to find another superstar to play along with Yao?

4.Trading Juwon Howard is possible but hope his contract will bring anything back good is irrational.

"Jason Collins is a consistently great defender; I don’t remember ever hearing him discussed as an elite defender in this league, but only a select few players have been more effective defensively than he has been over the past three seasons."

Here's the stats I know about after Battier being in the league for 5 years:
    10 PPG
    5 RPG

It doesn't because you don't want it to do it for you. Y'all have your mind set on hating and there's no convincing you guys. Hopeless fools.

Please Mcgrady stop posting that trash. Anything that lists Paul Pierce as a better defender than Bruce Bowen is just rediculous. All this statistical crap isn't proven to be that good of a measuring stick, especially considering Morey probably had a hand in this horrible trade that nets us Battier.

On that list, Trevor Ariza is ranked 4th overall-4 spot higher than Bruce Bowen.

Battier is a very good defensive player but no way he is the one of the best.

YOU ARE A MORON HE AVERAGED 35 MINUTES THIS PAST YEAR. and honestly who "shuts down" someone.Ron Artest(the best defender in my mind) held kobe to 22. In my mind that is shutting down cuz thats 13 points under his average. You just dont shut someone down u slow them down. And DUMB ASS he started every year for Memphis. In fact he played at the 4 for some minutes this past year. how do u average 35 minutes a game and not start..... go read some more and then come back

CD has some smarts though, he is not complete dumb

Check an example of a shrewd move he made to land the trade exception that IIRC helped us land Mike James.

    http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#69

That was shrewd of our front office

    Also

Though this deal reeks now, CD still has some smarts up his sleeves - lets hope that he gets the upper hand this time.

You're damn right I hate this trade. Simply because its terrible. Only "hopeless fools" would try justify it as if they're on the Rockets payroll.

"This trade is great! We got the best defender in the league in Shane Battier". Somebody should put this on a t-shirt

Except that EG and Brown are busts compared to the cost it took to get them. These were guys projected to be atleast 20/10 guys for years to come. They didn't pan out but even so their numbers were average. Does Brown put up numbers worthy of a #1 pick? Absolutely not. But he's still a solid contributor for the Lakers. Was EG worth three 1st rounders? Of course not, especially given his recent history with his ex-gf, attitude towards teammates, and drunken driving. But assuming none of those things occured, his numbers would have atleast been solid enough to start at PF for this team. He did average 9 and 6 his rookie year. Those two weren't players worth the cost to get them, but it doesn't mean they were total busts in production on the court.

Even if Gay doesn't turn out to be a 20/5/5 guy three years from now, it would be safe to assume he'd atleast be a 10/5 guy with more athleticism than Battier currently has. I mean we're talking about a former #6 pick and you guys act like averaging 10/5 and a godsend, yet act like a #8 pick averaging the same is the worst thing imaginable. Even if Gay didn't, we'd still have had Swift who for all his faults could have come off the bench for Yao and Howard and had a few productive nights. It's not like the Rockets saved money with this trade. But I guess that's ok because Battier has other intangibles right?

Uh stro signed for 5 years and 30 mil. Shane is 5 years left at a salary of 6 mil. and to your other r****ded point. Luther Head was a 4 YEAR SENIOR at illinois he knows the game inside out. Gay started playing when he was 16....

I usually dont take these very seriously but take it with a grain of salt....

"I just got back from a basketball camp like an hour ago and JVG father was one of my coaches. He is the coolest guy ever and me and him got really close over the week talking about the Rockets and he was saying that he knows of a bunch of trades that are in the works that would help us a whole lot"

Career average is 32 minutes though you're right that he did average 35 minutes last season. I guess I'm still caught up in the Hubie Brown years where they would rotate all 5 players out every few minutes. Back then atleast he wasn't a starter. And boy you sure have a violent attitude when it comes to Battier.

Of course they knew it was coming. Even were this not a moderately-poor trade, they'd still have parted with a young stud for a "proven veteran." Those trades are never popular, even when they're more sensible than this one.

Besides Battier at #1 for SF in 04-05, a couple of other interesting stats jump out: Steve Francis at #7 for PGs, and Bogans at next to last for SGs.
