The second worst thing about this. CD shouldn't GM a pee-wee league team because he's too phukking naive and nice. If he was any real GM, he would have forced Howard on West to see how badly he wanted Gay, if not then what's the harm in keeping Gay, who could probably do 10 and 5 in his first year, or find a way to move him for another vet from somewhere else?

I believe it's West's idea, the offer was made by him, it's unlikely for CD to add it himself. West wanted to bet that some guys he loved would fall to #8 and Rox mgmt didn't think too much about the possibility of getting Gay at #8 just like everyone of us, so West's gambling strategy succeeded.

I wouldnt call it gambling by West. He didn't have anything to lose by doing this deal.

CD is really trying so hard to be the dumbest GM in the town.

And there is no reason we dont believe he will catch up God-send-GM Isiah Thomas someday.

With all the hysteria surronding this trade you would think that two sure fire all stars were traded for an aging stiff. I think it comes down to this: in Shane Battier got a bigger Mario Ellie type player with more skills in exchange for two undermotivated athletic freaks who can never seem to translate that into production on the court. While Gay may harness his talent one day, Battier already has and is an ideal fit for a team with two superstars who need shots. Battier plays solid defense, makes outside shots, moves without the ball and brings it every night. You can't say the same with either Swift, or Gay.

this was written on a memphis message board

"This trade cannot be final yet.

Shane would be the glue that Houston needs to return them to the playoffs alongside TMac and Yao. You don't make a trade which makes your division rival better.

Also, Stro was despised by Fratello. And West.
There's no way Stro will play in a Grizz uniform again. (Remember when he wore Bonzi's number on his sweat bands after Bonzi got banished?

I like Gay as a player. But there better be something much bigger and better to be announced soon, or Jerry isn't going to see me in the seats too much next year."

Maybe the only reason JVG is still around is that Les likes have a coach that is as short as him. JVG and Les literally see eye-to-eye. Also I think Les has more hair then JVG.

I am still amazed by the condescension and arrogance of some towards the trade. Battier, whether you like it or not, adds something to this team and that something would not have been contributed by Gay or Swift: perimeter defense, court intelligence, experience, leadership, and a consistent jumprer.

I agree with those who dislike it from a numbers perspective, as I would like to have Swift to trade. SOMEBODY would have to at the least give us a backup one for him or some combo guard. The trade also eliminates our trade exceptions because we really have no one left to deal outside of Head (who's going to take Howard at that salary?). I would rather have seen an exception used in this deal instead of Swift, which would have given us Swift and Head or Swift and the exception as bait for another four or combo guard.

But back to the point: Battier is not that bad and Gay is not as good as people would like to think. For this team, I would take Battier because he provides far more immediate impact and some intangibles we really lack.

I have been disgusted with that group of morons ever since the Eddie Griffin debacle. I was hoping against hope that they wouldn't screw up this draft even though I knew deep down that Dawson would find a way to do just that. What's really insulting is to listen to the SportsRadio 610 talking heads trying to spin this disaster into something positive (I guess they have to toe the company line since they broadcast Rockets games). I can tell you this: Up here in Dallas, the Mavericks and Mark Cuban are laughing their asses off at the Rockets today and this organization deserves to be laughed at because it has turned into the biggest joke - except that the joke's on us.

Okay. This is going too far. Now we're dead and can't do a thing. Most people down in Memphis are real giddy and looking forward to next season. On their message board, this guy said "It's too good to be true!"(for them, that is), but some are sad about Battier going and questions Gay's heart. Well, every coin has two sides, but things aren't looking good for us.

This team does not lack intangibles, we lack talent.

Do you think a 28 year old 10 ppg player will allow us to defeat Phoenix, Dallas, SA, and Detroit or Miami?

After all, we were so close 2 years losing in the 1st round of the playoffs.

This team has 2 all-stars and a bunch of castoffs - most of whom would not start on any legitimate NBA team.

What we lacked in quantity, we could have potentially picked up in quality. Rudy Gay may or may not be a great NBA player. We know Shane Battier is not.

We need another all star on this team to make up for the fact the rest of the team is fairly pathetic.

Ehm, Battier averaged 35 minutes a game this season. How much more time do you expect him to get?

So even you think that Gay + Stro > Battier next year, never mind the years after that when Gay and Stro are both likely to improve.

Honestly though, as a person who wants to see Rudy Gay do well, id rather see him go somewhere else. We dont have the right system to develop young players. Look at what we did to Swift and Head. Both would have been better off somewhere else.

It's already horrible for us, regardless of whether Gay becomes a star.

Next season, Gay + Stro > Battler. So we immediately start losing on the deal.

In the years to come, it is quite possible that Gay + Stro >>>>> Battier. So we could lose big.

But however Gay turns out, we lose. It was a horrible deal.

Think about it.....he would have gone nowhere with us. He is a really good player but JVG would have stifled his talent.

It's pure, unaldulterated, near universal rage at the brute stupidity of the Rockets front office, sweeping the BBS. Take your condescension and arrogance, mix it up in a glass, and drink your own Kool-Aid. No thanks required.
