Pros and Cons..... I am in the market for a 4GB Ipod Nano, and there is about a $50 difference between buying a refurbished one vs. buying a brand new one. I've bought refurbished things before, like guitars and certified pre-owned cars, but never electronic gear. The refurbished one comes with a one year warranty. Advice? Pros? Cons? I'm getting confused, but I do need a 4GB Ipod badly.....for work and also about to get a new car stereo with an Ipod input. Thanks!
I think I am more of a 'Glass half empty' guy. Because when it comes to new or Refurbished I always go New. Especially electronics. I always think 'If it broke once, something is wrong with it, and it might break again on me' I guess the savings of buying used would be nice. Of course that is probably why I am broke How about the other Refurbished things you bought? How did they turn out?
I've bought a refurbished stereo, refurbished headphones, and a refurbished DVDR drive - and haven't had a single problem with any of them. I say buy refurbished. It's the same thing as new, just less expensive.
I've had a few refurbished electronic devices. Of course, they were sent to me by Dell, so it wasn't my choice. But they turned out to be better than my original equipment - they've lasted as long, if not twice as long.
I would go with refurbished. I've heard at most stores that sell refurbished stuff their is nothing wrong with the item being returned. Usually its a person with no knowledge of the item, and they just decide to return the good. For example I heard that someone returned a VCR, because their TV didnt have those input cable wires. Another person returned a Hard Drive because that person didnt have the proper port (SATA port). If the item was really messed up, I dont think the manufacturer would even bother trying to fix it. Its just that some people rip open the box, and cant figure out what they are doing.
Correct, sir. Refurb doesn't automatically mean "used". Refurb can just mean "not new". For example: Customer orders a laptop from Dell. Dell ships the laptop. Customer changes his mind, and refuses delivery of the laptop. Laptop is sent back to Dell. By law, Dell cannot sell that system as a "new" product. It goes straight to the depot for refurbished sales. This happens to thousands of orders each year. Now, the downside is that some products are returned for defects, and you can't tell defect returns from depot returns. So, if you go with refurb, test your product thoroughly. Check to see if EVERY feature works. Load up the hard drive with songs (even if it's 1,000 copies of the same song) to make sure it doesn't have any bad sectors. If you see even the SLIGHTEST thing wrong with it, return it immediately for a replacement. Do that, and you should be fine.
I had refurbished ex gf's. Always messed up on me later, so i got rid of them. 2 bad there isn't a warranty on things like that.
