For anyone that was at the draft party, you saw how shocked/dumbfounded Juwan Howard and Rafer Alston seemed to be when the announcement was made about the potential trade with Memphis. Even Juwan himself said "I'm not going to try and sell it to you...just don't throw anything on stage...don't kill the messenger!".

It's obvious that the players aren't exactly cool with it, which makes me wonder...

Tracy McGrady was best buddies with Mike Miller back in Orlando, so if the Rockets are doing a trade to "win now" don't you think Tracy, upon hearing that we're dealing with Memphis, might stick his nose in and push for Miller to be included somehow? I mean, Tracy is going to want to come back this year in a big way after this past nightmare of a season, so I see him looking at this trade the same way Juwan and Rafer seemed to look at it which was "umm...I don't get it."

Anyway, I was just wondering how good the chances are that Tracy does some lobbying over the next couple of weeks before this things gets finalized, because if Mike Miller were somehow snuck into this deal I would instantly turn from "sickened" to "overjoyed".

So you guys think TMac has this kind of leverage? I can't imagine him not at least making mention to the front office about his interest in playing with Miller again. According to what I saw in another thread, they're trying to move Miller anyway!

Another interesting thing is that summer league games are scheduled to start BEFORE July 12th. I assume Gay wouldn't be allowed to go play for the Grizzlies' squad until everything was official, but would he play on the Rockets' just in case? You guys think there's a chance that we wait and see how he looks in summer league before ultimately making a decision? If he's really upset about Houston passing on him, he may just do everything in his power to tear it up in summer league and save himself from Memphis.

Or maybe all this is just wishful thinking. Dammit, I thought all the anxiety of the draft was supposed to be over last night, but us Rockets fans get two extra freaking weeks of this bullsh!t!!!!

If they threw in Mike Miller AND Shane Battier then I guess I'm ok with this deal. But either Miller or Battier alone doesn't cut it.

    Oh, well yeah.

Maybe I wasn't clear but I was referring to something like this...

    Swift
    Howard
    Gay

    for

    Battier
    Miller

It's actually pretty fair for both teams. If nothing else, it's a hell of a lot closer than the ass raping that is supposedly going to take place.

CD wasn't/isn't smart enough to ask for Miller and West isn't dumb enough to throw Miller in. If we did get Miller and Battier in return, I'll be fine with what had happened. But from all the reports, it's not looking so great.

I would be happy if the deal was for Miller. But West isn't dumb enough to deal both Battier and Miller to a division rival.

That's what pisses me off with this deal. WE should have all the leverage. West openly played his cards and said he wanted to trade Battier and Miller at some point. We can demand more than freaking Shane Battier because even if we don't do this trade we still get a legit star in Rudy Gay. Memphis loses if this trade doesn't go down, we don't.

Didnt we get what we "want"? At least according to JVG and CD.

Id welcome in Miller it would end up being a great trade, I didnt know he might have been available. But based on all the reports that have been made its not looking to bright. Seems like the deal is already set. Hard to imagine them throwing in Miller as well though. But then again the deal we made is pretty hard to imagine too.

Seriously...am I the only one that feels like they got cheated on by their girlfriend? I'm talking long-term girlfriend...

I literally couldn't eat until a few hours after the proposal was announced.

What I do not understand is that if no one is allowed to talk about this trade, then how does everyone know exactly who is involved? How does it get leaked that it's Battier for Gay - then almost in answer to the "How does that fit, salary-cap wise?", we find out Swift is involved too?

    How does that work?

Any chance that this trade might involvemore than just Battier? Maybe they throw in Lowry at #24 and/or Milller too and it just hasn't been leaked?

If Miller is a part of this deal then we ripped them off. Giving them an unproven rookie and complete dumbass PF for stud defeneder and premier shooter would be robbery. I don't think Jerry West would do that. And if Miller was involved I'm sure we would have heard something by now.

I hope Rudy Gay proves everyone wrong at the summer league if this is true.
And is it July 1 or July 12 that they are allowed to talk about it? I really wanna know the exact details..

July 1st they can talk about it.

July 12th is when Battier's BYC (base year compensation) status goes away and suddenly the salaries match and the trade gets the green light. So, nobody will technically switch teams until then, from what I understand.

Why July 1 as the date you can talk about it?

What happens to Battier's contract that makes the salaries match after the BYC goes away?

    Yep, I agree.

I can't help but feel that there is something else to this trade. Something we won't know for sure about until next week. I hope the above scenario comes to fruition. I like our team if it does. Otherwise, I just can't understand what we did. Or why we did it.

Keeping my fingers crossed, Mike Miller and Bat would be worthwhile in my opinion

Mike's contract is huge, we don't have any other salary to match if he is included.

The hard on that GM's have for Miller has always been inexplicable to me.

Then we would be @ssraping Memphis instead, getting rid of both Howard and Swift...too good to be true to happen.
