Antoher thing many of you guys are forgetting is that Swift is a 10/5 guy while playing 21 minutes a game. Battier is a 10/5 guy while playing 30+ minutes a game!

Honestly, this gives stats a bad name. Who cares about the 10/5 figure? You think that actually sums up the producitivity of a player? Battier does so many other things to help a team win.
Isn't there some rule that forbids the media to disclose any trades involving current players, so that we won't see the truth till later on?
You put too much blame on JVG. It's more likely that CD himself does not have any confidence in drafting players so that he took the easy way out.
Battier has to defer to Gasol and Miller and even, to a degree, EJones. Of course, Stromile has to defer to Tracy and Yao.
There is no way to tell if this was good or not. I'm not happy about it right now, but I don't feel like the sky is falling or anything. Battier is solid, and has a shot. That will add something to our team. With Gay who knows what we would have gotten. I think it is a rip off to add swift into the deal, and may have been a rip off period. But there is no way of knowing at this moment.
When the trade becomes official July 12, it had better be: Swift + Gay + JVG + CD for Battier + Fratello + Jerry West That deal, I would do. Jerry West is a genius, trading himself to the Rockets...
Durvasa, I enjoy your statistical analysis very much. And I can understand why we would want Battier on our team. I have felt for a long time that he would be a great fit alongside McGrady but didn't figure there would be any way that Memphis would trade him to us unless we overextended ourselves. As nice of a player as Battier is, don't you think we gave up too much if all we get out of this deal is Battier?

i actually woke up an hour earlier than usual because i was so upset about this. and i dont wake up an hour early for nothing. Rudy Gay + Stromile Swift = Shane Battier??????? i mean.... WHAT????? a total contradiction on what van gundy and dawson both said were our weaknesses - YOUTH, ATHLETICISM, and DEPTH. with this deal - besides trading away a potential start - we got older, less athletic, and lose depth in a now very thin 4 spot.
One thing I find interesting is the summer league dates, going by http://www.vegassummerleague.com/ it shows the rockets have 5 summer league games before the 12th of july, will the rockets play gay in those summer 5 summer league games, and if they do, if he impresses will it put a huge dent into the trade? and more importantly will head play in the summerleague as well just so we can see some gay head action even if gay gets traded?
I can't believe that an mid-lottery pick and Swift = Battier. Also, how can we trade since Battier is a BCY and we are both over the cap. Wouldn't someone under the cap have to be involved? Unless Battier loses his BCY status on the 12.
