I was just as pissed as anybody but the more I think about it, it MIGHT make some sense. Battier will always take the toughest defensive assignment at 2 or 3 or maybe even 4. Previously, TMac always had to take that assignment plus be our offensive guy. Gay wouldn't have a prayer to guard Kobe or Wade next season. Remember when TMac had to cover Dirk? He also covered Kobe. So Battier ain't a sexy trade but he frees up TMac to let loose next season. God, lets hope so.
Gay is a wonderkid. What is wonderkid? A kind of creature who has a great deal of potential and can improve very very quickly. For example, K8,T-mac,Lebron James,Anthony,Wade ......They are wonderkids. And Battier? A Better defender than Jim Jackson's last year in Houston. Maybe He can meet the expectation of the VGD. But he has not showing enough ability to improve. So can really a team with such a starting up lines grab the champion? Absolutely not. What i c is Rockets gave up a chance to become No.1 and seize an insurance for play offs.
I can forgive CD for trading Rudy Gay for Battier. But it is inexcusable for the Rockets to get so little for Swift in the process. I refuse to believe that Swift is valued so little around the league that we couldn't at least get a draft pick from somebody for taking on his contract. We have expiring contracts in Deke and Sura as well. I suspect Les is unwilling to even temporarily put up with another long-term contract. Sad.
it's NOT fair, hence us being all f-ing pissed!! Jerry West just simply talked CD out of his pants... wouldn't be surprised if those were thrown in as part of the deal aswell....
In years to come Richard Justice's "apology" is going to be a big comfort to all true Rockets fans. Not that many of the current board can remember how Bill Fitch nearly destroyed the Rockets with his short-sighted coaching style. JVG reminds me so much of Fitch and the Fitch days. Board members 25 years later still wonder how we could have passed on Clyde Drexler for Rodney McCray. McCray, like Battier, was a good solid player with 15-8 credentials -- a "solid" pick that Rockets have still regret. I feel sympathy for Battier because he is a good player and merely a pawn in this saga. To him I say "Welcome." But with this piece of epic shortsightedness, we considerably weakened our foundation. If we needed salary to make it work, why didn't management send players like Sura, who, much as I love his grit, can no longer play? Then, if they didn't see any future in Swift, trade him for other pieces who could be developed. I sit here at breakfast with no appetite on this morning after. Once again the Rockets have absolutely sickened me on draft night.
Competative against whom? New Orleans? Portland? Golden State? Philadelphia? New York Knicks? In what universe does this draft help make them competative aginst the likes of San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix and the rest? Poor DD! You did all of that superb analysis and gave passionate arguments for JJ Redick but in the end you and everyone else here made one fatal mistake: You put your faith in incompetent fools and consequently you ended up getting burned...again (it's the Eddie Griffin debacle all over again). Enjoy watching this 2007 lottery team on the court and try to enjoy the "spin job" that this stupid organization is going to pull over on its "fans".
