Best Case: Rudy Gay's a major bust, a headcase. Swift gets suspended for 2 years for drug violation. Shane Battier is our 3rd option, gets all the clutch plays. Worst Case: Rudy Gay is an all-star, a talked about star. Swift finally learns his role averaging 16/10. Shane Battier's a scrub, can't hit a shot.
Best Case (unlikely): Rudy Gay turns into the next Harold Miner and thousands of BBS'ers rush to edit their contributions to a 30 page long rant. Battier ups his career averages to 13 points and 6.5 boards by the time he finishes career in Houston. Worst Case: Rudy Gay shocks the world and beats Lebron to being the 1st modern era player to average a triple double. Battier plays a year then leaves basketball for a career in politics.
Best case: Battier's a useful roleplayer and the city and fans fall in love with him. Gay turns out to be a major bust, and Stro wilts under the pressure of a coach (Fratello) who clearly hates him. Worst case: Battier's turns out to be an ineffective starter, Stro finds himself and develops into a star, Rudy Gay takes full advantage of his talent and becomes an all-star, the type of player than can carry a team. T-Mac's back problems flare back up, he's forced to retire in his early thirties, and the team wallows in mediocrity, knowing they could have had his replacement waiting in the wings.
Hey withthe #8 pick in a "weak" draft, ill roll teh dice with a guy that coudve gone #1. Tor was looking at 2 players basiclaly Gay and Bargiani
Even if Gay is a total bust, however unlikely, the 8th pick should've gotten us more that Batier. Or they could've picked someone else. I hate this trade.
Not a good sign already: "I'm going to make every one of the teams pay that passed on me." -Rudy Gay http://www.courant.com/sports/baske...,0,2656203.story?coll=hc-headlines-basketball
Best Case: Battier gets high on roids and become the next Artest with a human brain. Swift gets high on something else and get busted. Gay gets... well... gay and decide to end his career just to be with his lover... Worst Case: Battier comes off the bench after Ryan Bowen or some random softball players. Swift finally passes the same IQ exam that hehas been taking for 10 years. Gay schools whoever it is every single night, and takes a nice photo together with Battier on the floor while hanging on the rim every other game with the rox.
I really don't wish for anything bad for Rudy Gay or Swift. Whether they bud or not into stars the issue just really isn't part of the Rockets' focus anymore. Best Case scenario- Tmac returns with a hunger, fire, HEALTHY and is just ready to become the beast he knows he can be. Yao also returns, completely healthy and much more improved from last year. He becomes even more of a beast in the Paint making our gap at Pf not that big of an issue. Battier learns to feed off these two players and becomes a perfect compliment to our two stars. His three point shot improves and becomes a great perimeter defensive stopper/beast. If he doesn't the Rockets are still able to trade him early enough in the season for a player that we really need and can help us NOW. This trade helped us much like the trade Miami did to the Grizzlies which got them Jwill and Posey for Eddie Jones and "stuff". The Rockets bring home the Championship right where it belongs (in Houston TX). Worst case Scenario- The boards are going to be filled with Fire CD and JVG threads again all year around. Another why not give Dennis Rodman a chance thread appears. The boards are filled with TMac Sucks or Yao Sucks threads. If Battier does not pan out we are stuck with him until his contract expires and he becomes just dead weight on our roster. The boards are filled with what if threads and I wish we still had Gay and Swift threads (like the what if we still kept Richard Jefferson) for years to come. Heck I would even be sick of them if they appeared all offseason. What would gynormously annoy the living Turds out of me would be that we are back at the lotto next season and have to listen to Mav fans and Spurs fans gloat of their success .
Best Case: Rockets win it all next season. Worst Case: Memphis eliminates us from playoff contention.
