I thought this deserved this own thread because I don't really see it anywhere else. Anyways, David Dalati on 610 or 790 reported that the deal is done. It just cannot be officially announced till July 12th. Both teams are over the salary cap and that is the reason the deal cannot be announced. The salary cap rises on July 1st and then there is a 12 day moratorium. I don't fully understand it, but that is what was reported. Fire Gundy!!!
Isn't Portland and Boston both over the cap? There trade was announced. May have not be finalized, but at least announced which is more than I can say about this deal.
Wow, I give up on the rockets, they give up a potential star for a mediocore player??? This has to be the worse trade ever. The staff needs to be fired. CD defininatly will be remembered because of this trade, im glad this is his last year.

Welcome to the GARM. Get used to as the melo-drama that goes on in this place is over the top. I'll save my judgement for after the 2006-2007 season is done. My first reaction was emmotional but the more I thought about it dumping Stro's contract for Battier is not so bad, but giving up Gay on top of it tells me there is something else in the works because the dollars don't match up.

This was hard to conceive. I thought the Astros blowing another pitching gem in Detroit would be the worst thing to happen tonight. I won't under-estimate the Rockets again. They are obviously motivated.
Ok. The merits of the deal. Shane Battier has 0 upside potential. He is a mediocre, peripheral player who was a small cog on a borderline playoff team. This team has 2 legitimate starters and was in need of good, young, athletic players. Rudy Gay was one of the highest ranked players out of high school when he signed with UConn. He has immense athletic ability, can finish, has huge upside potential. If you have a team with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady and a complete dearth of talent surrounding them - who would you rather hedge your best. Were the Rockets a Shane Battier role player away from an NBA championship? With Shane Battier, can they out duel SA, Dallas, Phoenix, Miami, Detroit, and soon-to-be Cleveland. Ad-hominem attack on management? Theattack on management is that no explanation is needed - this deal stinks. Res Ipsa.

Successful Scenario Due to Houston and Memphis being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Memphis had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here.
