If Rudy Gay, Brandon Roy, Adam Morrison, LaMarcus Aldridge and Andrea Bargnani (just say no to Tyrus Thomas) are all gone by the time our pick comes around, I suggest a straight up deal with Boston -- #8 for Gerald Green.

Speaking of Boston, how about Howard+Sura+Mutombo+#8 for LaFrentz+Green+#7. With howard and Mutombo they get some inside presence, a good veteran backup in Sura, and i'm sure whoever they want at #7 will be available at #8. We get a 4 with range, an athletic SG/SF and move up one. What do you think about that?

Please, if it was that easy, we would have done it already. I'd take Green straight up over anybody but Gay.

Disagree. Boston has repeatedly said Green is not on the table. However, apparently he could be according to ESPN (http://www.hoopshype.com/rumors.htm). Having #7 and #8 allows them to pick up a PG like Marcus Williams or C like Patrick O'Bryant AND perhaps later acquiring a veteran player in a trade.

While we agree on Gerald Green's value, it may have been the Rockets who have been reluctant to make the trade hoping to acquire whomever their draft target really is.

Once upon a time I thought LaFrenz would be a great addition. However, now, considering Raef's knees, I'd rather have Howard, who IMO is a greatly underestimated player on this board. The trade is easier if we just keep it simple. Green would give us the young stud SG/SF we desperately need.

I love Gerald Green, but i think Brewer would be a better choice.

Getting Gerald Green is good but not for the price of having LaFrentz.

Do you have idea how bad his contract is?

    3 year of total 36M

I think Gerald is better in the later part of the season he showed he could score from anywhere, he was dunking and draining 3 pointers although brewer is much better defensivley green has a knack of putting the ball in the hole

I still think we should trade the #8 to New Orleans for J.R. and their first round pick. I think J.R. could become a really solid player if he just got some more minutes.

Green is potentially the next big thing in the NBA, I don't see boston giving him up just yet.

I don't know about Green, but I like your list of must have players. My list is almost exactly the same, but I put it as, in order of preference:

    1) Morrison (scorer, most competitive payer in the draft?)
    2) Bargnani (potential too high to pass up)
    3) Gay (attitude could improve, but so much potential)
    4) Roy (all around great player)
    5) Aldridge (could be the next Duncan, but too passive to team with Yao, imo)
    6) Brewer (all around great player, great athlete)

Many would likely rate Aldridge higher and Morrison lower, but I think need and personality are important here. First, Rockets have more of a backcourt need than a frontcourt need, imo. Second, Rockets have a need for a third scorer. And third, I'm looking for an on-the-court personality/drive, a fire to be competitive and win.

Where you would fit Green in there is hard to tell...

How ironic that Green is the guy we we're trying to trade up to get last year at this time, we settled on Head as plan 1B.

With that said, Brewer would be solid at 8, but rather anti-climatic at this point, IMO, with all the trade talk swirling around lately.

The J.R. Smith/2 1sts trade involving Head and our 8 would be great now that Redick is falling fast. J.R. Smith, Simmons, and Redick for us would be a coupe! Swift would then have to go though...

Getting rid of Juwan's contract somehow to the Blazers would be great too. The Atlanta trade for Roy seems a bit too steep in hindsight now comparatively... maybe...

JayZ -- I didn't have a particular order on the draft candidates for this year. However, I would take Green over any SF or SG on the list. Bigs like Aldridge and Bargnani are always at such a premium that they would be hard to pass up. However, pairing two 6-8 SG/SFs like Green and McGrady would be impossible to defend, especially with Yao Ming as the anchor.

If we can do a simple trade, I really think it's doable. IMO the level of trade difficulty rises almost geometrically when adding more players or a third team to the mix. Remember, Ainge is a wheeler-dealer so, barring an unforeseen move up in the draft, a trade like this is my keenest hope.

Actually, now this trade makes more sense for both teams. Danny Ainge can still have a draft choice, and we can still get a player we need.

apparently the trade wasn't just Telfair for Dickau+Pick

    http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/5738468

Celtics get Telfair, Ratliff for No. 7 pick, Raef

    Jeff Goodman / FOXSports.com

Danny Ainge didn't have to wait on this draft-day trade.

According to sources, the Celtics' boss acquired point guard Sebastian Telfair and big man Theo Ratliff from the Trail Blazers in exchange for the No. 7 pick in tonight's NBA draft, center Raef LaFrentz and guard Dan Dickau.
Not only did Boston get the point guard it has been seeking, but Ainge also rid himself of LaFrentz's mega-contract and also got Ratliff who should give the Celtics a much-needed defensive presence in the middle.

The Celtics are also still discussing the possibility of acquiring Allen Iverson, according to sources close to the situation.

Drat! Now that does make a difference because Boston says they want to move Delonte West to the SG and ship Wally-World out. Getting rid of Raef for Ratliff solves their center quandry.

I was hoping that Gerald Green was the odd man out, and Ainge would need to pick up a center like Patrick O'Bryant. Green will still be a reserve, but ironically is IMO a better potential star than any of the current draft crop, Morrison, Roy and Gay included.
