Is that like having some Head at Luther's? Whoops, I mean Pappa's.

My gut tells me that getting James via the full MLE and getting Jeffries via a SnT is a pipedream. Would it be possible to get V-Span and Jerad Jeffries to split the MLE, or is this just as unlikely?

I doubt Jeffries can be had for part of the MLE because he's restricted. I think split MLE targets could be guys like of Rasual Butler, Greg Buckner, and Qnytel woods. I doubt any of these guys will get full MLE offers.

Not this year. Used it on Anderson last season and can't use it two years in a row.

We used it last year, and you can't use it two years in a row. Boy did that Derek Anderson signing, bite us in the butt or what. And I thought we were getting a "can't miss bargain". :(

Spanoulis isn't coming to the Rockets to play off the bench unless the rockets give him a big fat contract!!
Spanoulis can be used as part of a sign/trade to gain an upgraded Free Agent.

C'mon now, lets keep our foreign second rounders in order. That reaction is reserved for threads on Badiane only. And protocol stipulates that those threads should all be titled "Malick Badiane?"

drafting a guy like spanoulis isn't a bad idea... just think about it for a second.

if vspan is awesome, then the rockets can PAY THE BIG BUCKS TO GET HIM HERE. if he doesn't pan out like they want, then they can trade his rights or let him stay overseas. i think the rockets draft these guys to see if they "rise to the occasion" if you will. if they begin to really shine, then the rockets will make the way for them to come here.

now that i said that, i am realizing that this hasn't worked even once. malik badiane is still overseas and mirsad turkan never panned out. maybe the rockets just suck at drafting... :(

but to answer your question, obviously the rockets don't think vspan is any good or they would've started the process in getting him here already. i say leave him over there. JVG isn't a fan of young guys anyways.

I think he is a bit overated by rocket fans but is a good young prospect, I think if possible you should trade his rights and the 32nd for J.R Smith assuming Head gets traded to move up

The list of guys we may have a shot with the MLE is so unexciting I could just cry.

The thing is if we can bring V-Span over and he sucks I'm not sure anyone else we pay over 5 mil. for would suck any less.

As long as JVG is our coach I'm all for trading V-Span's rights, but the bottom line is he may have priced himself out of our willingness to have him.

But also remember we wanted him here last year. There was a reason then and there's the same reason now, only worse with Sura out of the equation.

Unknown assets are scary, yet we have so few.

Why not trade Bob Sura (3.8 M) the trade exception (4.2 M) and cash considerations for Mike James (Signed at 8 - 8.5 M)

Then use half the MLE to sign V-Span and another Vet

Correction.....He don't like European players with no NBA experience...ask Boki Nachbar.

Sura played at Florida state and didn't come straight from Europe and was already a proven player here in the league and came to us as a veteran which JVG likes.

He is currently playing off the bench for his greek team even if he does finish all the games (last quarter).

Spanoulis is starting to became a star in Europe and that was only his first year in a powerhouse team. I think he just don't want to leave all that now for a third PG duty in Houston unless maybe if offered a good deal, but CD seems to be growing a little impatient and maybe he will trade his rights.

The Spurs have experienced the same situation with Luis Scola, at least and unlike Scola Spanoulis doesn't have buyout complications.

you can't combine trade exceptions with players to trade for another player. plus, $8-8.5 M is pretty steep to pay for MJ.

The Rox might want to explore trading V-Span's rights to Toronto. The Raptors need point guards (not that we don't) and it doesn't hurt their feelings to stockpile Euros (or else why take on garbage contracts like Nesterovic or whatever his name is?)
