not extactly. its most likely one of them are going to drop, IF the teams that draft before us keep their promise. if they do, the draft order should look like this: 1. bargani 2. thomas 3. aldridge 4. morrison 5. s. williams 6. roy/gay 7. m.williams 8. GAY OR ROY!!!! i would be happy with either.
Roy has been at the top of my wish list since March. Gay is second. I'll be happy with either, but I voted for Roy.
As someone said, Roy's gotta a little Sura, and that's what we need. With cool Tmac, and Yao, and Rafer, and Juwan, we need fire. We need a vocal leader, and a killer. I think Roy's got the heart and the voice. That's SO important for this team, that I think he makes the team better, even if Gay becomes a superstar someday.
Roy will asuredly be better for next year but Gay has star potential, some even say superstar potentiel so if we have a choice we better go with him. Given the playing time he will get next year (who's on our team gonna keep him on the bench?) he can develop fast and if we have an extreme need we can deal him for a very good young player with a much needed role, plus picks. Just remember what are we ready to offer the Celtics for Gerald Green right now, after just one brilliant month of play?
On one hand, I like Brandon Roy just because against the Heat we can run a headline of "Roy vs. Wade". On the flip side, Rudy Gay is a marketing coup for Les Alexander -- Whether you put his first name on a Rockets jersey or his last name on a Comets jersey, they're all going to sell like hotcakes. Tough call, but if they liked him, I'd roll the dice on a guy like Gay ... Roy looks good, he looks solid ... but I'm not convinced Tracy McGrady's back is going to hold up much longer and this may be our only home run swing in the next few years. Time will tell.
I can't really explain why I have felt this but I have always craved us getting Rudy Gay. So, if he is there, we should jump on it. His potential is astronomical, IMO. If he is gone and Roy is there, then that would be my 2nd choice.
Roy. First of all, if the Rockets are projecting Gay as a four, I'm not sure he fits our needs as well as Roy does. We need another perimeter player to be able to create off the dribble. Also, the size really isn't all that different... 6'6 vs. 6'8. We're not talking about a David Wesley here. But, aside from that, it's the intangibles. We've seen Brandon Roy dominate games on a regular basis and be the go-to scorer in key situations for a very good team. We've seen Rudy Gay be a pretty good player on a very good team, but he's underachieved for his potential and has not shown the go-to ability in clutch situations. (OTOH, Marcus Williams certainly has. But that's a different story.) In Brandon Roy, you know what you're getting. You're getting a legit team player who can score 18-20 ppg and knock down open jumpers for the next 10 years. With Rudy Gay, you're not sure. You could get a potential Shawn Marion. You could also get a potential Tim Thomas. If Roy didn't have potential himself, I could understand the arguments about taking a player with a high ceiling like Gay. But Roy is an incredible player with a very high ceiling himself as a scorer, and he also has the intangibles that you want for a team looking for immediate help. I'm not sure Gay does. Gay has more defensive versatility, but give me the rock solid 18-20 ppg SG with a superb all-around team game for the next 10 years. You know what you're getting with Roy, and it's really good. That said, I really don't think we land either... but I'm keeping my hopes up.
my opinion Gay = Robert Horry i.e. great skill but inconsistant Roy = Mike Dickerson i.e. good notgreat but plays hard Marcus williams = poor mans Jason kid To tell the truth I would not be mad at either pick. I just think they should look at who fit JVG system better (Roy). But, they need so much help, a guy that ANYONE that can come in and play from day one will be good to me
