Rudy Gay has higher upside, but his passion has been questioned, and he is only 19 years old. Give me Brandon Roy, who is ready to play big minutes...TODAY !!!! DD
Roy is likely the target of a tradeup because of his defensive versatility. As good as Gay was in college offensively (at times) his defense was average at best. Roy has the potential to be a Josh Howard-like player with 3-point range. He is by far the most complete player, and even though he is a senior, I think his upside is just as large as Gay's-- remember, Gay had one of the most talented teams in the country and he still couldnt dominate with William's excellent PG play. I think Gay has the highest boom/bust potential, but I think the potential for Roy is almost as great (and his bust potential is much much lower), which is why I think he would be an instant and perennial impact for the Rockets.
We need to win quick. Not sure how long Mcgrady with his back problem will hold up. We need someone that can step in and contribute now. We already have Stromile SWift with a ton of potential but didn't live up to it. Last thing we need is another ton of potential and don't pan out. So, I'll say let's get Roy if we can.
My sentiments exactly, TMac's back has got me thinking that we have a 2-3 year window. Roy can help us immediately. Ultimately I trust that the Rockets' Organization knows what they're doing. So if we really want Gay, then I'll be on board with it.
Is it possible to change your vote?? haha I can't decide between the "upside through the roof" of Gay and the versatility and NBA readiness of Roy. I guess with a healthy Yao and T-Mac taking Gay makes the most sense.
Although I'm tempted by Gay's athleticism and upside, he's got much more bust potential than Roy, and I just don't think the Rockets can afford to screw up this pick. 1. This team's window is now and extends the 3-4 years that T-Mac could conceivably still be dominant. Brandon Roy can step in now and be our starting 2 guard and put us in position to be a contender again. The last thing we can afford is another Eddie Griffin situation where we pin a large part of our future hopes on a tantalizing prospect who does not turn out. 2. T-Mac is best at the 3, and I think it would be a disservice to move him to the 3 where he loses some of his quickness advantage and has to chase oposing 2s around all-day. I am not convinced Rudy Gay can guard 2s in the NBA, and Brandon Roy seems well-equipped to do that. So, I vote for Roy. That being said, I have no problems "settling" for Gay, if need be.
sometimes i'm not sure which head to listen to... well i am going to say ROY by a pubic hair... Roy is a natural SG and a little better on the ball defender. the reason i give the edge to Roy is because i see gay falling into that "no true position, but all this talent" category that the rockets seem to always draft. see eddie griffin, boki, luther head, roderick rhodes, steve francis, kenny thomas...
The thing about it is does Roy have the ability to eventually develop into a superstar? Scouts seem to think Gay does. Yes it'd be a bigger risk, but when Tmac walks away from the game I'd like to have a budding all-star replacement than a really good complimentary player.
Our window of oppurtunity is now and i believe Brandon Roy is the one that could do that. Maybe Gay might be better when it all said and done but right now Roy can contribute much more even though T-MAC and Gay could be sick
I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm going with Gay. I think Roy is the guy we need, but Gay could become something amazing. Roy may simply be an all-star someday, and our starting 2 for the next decade. Sometimes, you have to put logic aside and take a chance on greatness. Damn, I want both.
You've obviously never seen the "Who is Hotter: Jeff Timmons or Marat Safin?" poll. Okay, it was never a poll, but they did have that thread here.
