Final poll. It has been a roller coaster of emotions. Forget about the stipulations and the specifics, forget about how we do it, at the end of the day, who do you hope we bring back to Houston tommorrow: Brandon Roy or Rudy Gay.
Obviously Rudy Gay. Those who would choose Roy please argue your case. The only thing in Roy's favor is he is a "natural" SG.
One of them and Tyrus Thomas are gonna fall. 1.A.Bargani 2.L.Aldridge 3.Gay 4.Morrison 5.Shelton 6.Foye 7.Marcus Williams 8.Roy or Tyrus??
Roy is a better offensive player He fits the team better (can possibly play PG, SG, and SF as needed) He's a safer pick, which makes sense for a team with two clearly established stars.
I would be extremely happy with either Gay or Roy. However I do think Roy at SG is a better fit. I also love that Roy plays with a lot of heart and passion and agressiveness, I really like his attitude and his basketball IQ, he's a 4 yr senior as well. He's the whole package and he seems like a Jeff Van Gundy player. When watching Gay in the tournament this year, it seemed like he was very passive and quiet and didn't really play that hard. Gay is very talented though. He's got tons of size, quickness and athletiscm, but he is hardly a polished player, in fact he's pretty raw. This is a team with the most lethal duo in the NBA in their prime. We are a piece or 2 away from title contention. Roy is by far the most NBA ready player in this draft, he would probably win the Rookie of the Yr on the Rockets. Let's just get it on already!!!!
Good, #1. I don't agree. You put Roy on UConn's team and he wouldn't average 20 pts. Put Gay on UW and he averages more than 20 (IMO). #2. Maybe advantage Roy, but Gay could maybe swing between SG, SF and grow into a unique PF in a couple of years. #3. Clear advantage Roy. I won't bother listing Gay's advantages. Thanks for the viewpoint.
Roy can defend probably 3 positions in the league... I think that would be key because JVG is a defensive minded coach.
To answer my own question, I don't know. I know if it were Gay, I would be more excited, but my head tells me Roy is the smarter choice.
If we have our choice of either, who really cares? But if I really had to pick, I'd pick Roy. He's always focused and tough, very competitive. You know you're going to get a solid player. 6'6" Sura with more passing. That's a good thing. Gay seems to shrink at inopportune times, but is just so talented. Moderate risk/superstar reward for sure. I wouldn't feel comfortable being forced to choose. There's a lot to like about both.
As much as I want Roy, Rudy Gay would be a big addition to the team. Gay has potential out of this world and has all the tools needed to succeed in the NBA. He is as athletic as they come, has good size and unbelievably long arms, and has a decent shot. While I don't want to see TMac back at SG, Gay might be good enough to do so. The main thing I like about Rudy Gay is his versatility. He can play both SG and SF right now and will most likely be able to play some PF if he gains some muscle. While he isn't the best shooter, having a mobile PF next to Yao could be very dangerous.
isn't Roy a better shooter? 3 pts and free throws included and Roys a better defender & he can defend 1s, 2s, & 3s.. Gay can only defend 3s and 2s with some difficulty with his height
