I'm thinking that the Celtics and Timberwolves are threatening to draft Sheldon Williams cause they don't want to be leapfrogged by the Rockets and would rather Roy fall to them so they can pick up extra assets in a trade with the rockets or someone else like the lakers for Roy.

This is why all potential draft day deals need to be kept secret.

Yay! Start passing out those assets and draft picks like party favors, CD! Extortion for ALL! Ok, NBA GMs, line up, single-file, for a shot at a free gift, courtesy of Atlanta and Houston!

I dunno, those guys(ainges and mchale) probaly should be more worried about making a good pick and keeping their jobs then extorting gifts from the rockets, but apparently being an ex-celtic gets you a free pass in this league,.

I said in the other thread I'd rather stand pat at #8 and see who drops than trade a player to move up. That is unless a deal that is too sweet to pass up presents itself.

Gay to the Raptors is the definition of a smokescreen IMO. We all know that they need either a PG or a C, and there are no PGs worth taking in the Top 5. .

I'm pretty sure I heard ESPN insider Jay Bilas on the radio this morning saying he had Randy Foye ranked #4 in the draft.

Oh well, there are six guys I want and none of them are Shelden Williams, Randy Foye or Marcus Williams so I think the odds of one of them falling to 8 is pretty good. If we end up with Reddick, Carney or Brewer I'd be mildly disappointed but all 3 fit a Rocket need and actually have as much chance of NBA success as the other 9 above.

(I'd actually be secretly happy with Redick or Carney but there will be so much bichin and moanin, I won't try to defend them. Redick because he is a Dukiegod and I would love to watch him come off the bench and light it up, instant offense style and Carney because I have this feeling he may be the hidden gem in the draft and Tmac may be the perfect muse for him.)

I'll say this report came out because of the Atlanta-Houston trade rumor and the Wolves/Celtics want to mess with it.

if this is true. im glad. What this team needs is Depth and youth. trading one for one doesn't do that. Keeping Head gives us youth and added depth.

I totally disagree. What the team needs is a certified quality starter preferably at the SG spot. Talent is a priority over depth and youth. We can get depth/youth via futiure drafts, FA's, vet minimums, trade exceptions, etc.

Without Head, we've already have 8 committed 2006-07 contracts. The #8 pick takes the number to 9, the #32 to 10, a single MLE to 11, Bogans is restricted so we should be able to bring him back as 12 and a vet minimum makes 13. All of the above is a good combination of talent, depth and youth and does not include Luther Head.

Assuming we can land Mike James...

    1) Alston / James
    2) #8 / James / Bogans
    3) McGrady / Bogans / Bowen (POpt)
    4) JHO / Swift / Hayes
    5) Yao / Deke / Stro / (Lampe)

That's a decent team w/o Luther Head I haven't even included #32 or the vet min player.

those are all good points, but i feel that we still need SG that can shoot lights out from 3 pt range in addition to what you listed. I don't think Bogans is a viable option. I really think the rockets should take a look at Kareen Rush and leave JHO stranded on an island somewhere...

Let's again take a "test drive" w/o Luther Head.

Gansey shoots the 3ball pretty well...and he's from NE Ohio like Morey. :D

In the same vein, we've also have the inside track on Richie Frahm. And IIRC, Scott Padgett's NJ experience has not been the best.

    Call me an optimist. :)

I'll be thrilled if this deal dies. I don't think it's worth Luther to move up for Roy when Brewer is just as good.

Randy Foye is one of my favorite players in this draft. Did any of yall watch any Villanova basketball last year? They basically played small ball in a Phoenix Suns type of offense. Randy Foye got to the rim whenever he wanted, and hit from long range consistently. He's damn quick off the dribble, and I didn't see too many guys who could slow him down. Granted at 6'3 he's a bit short for the 2, but he knows how to use his frame to get in the lane and get fouled, creating 3-point plays. This guy would be great to have alongside Yao, as he could set up some amazing dunks and alleyoops.

I've mentioned that if we tried to trade for Steve Francis at the deadline, why not get a younger, cheaper version?

It would still leave us short in the backcourt, but maybe some other trades, the MLE...

Damn right. Basically a combo guard who can handle the ball, score, and rebound.

Why does everyone look at 3pt shooting as a shooter? Has anyone watched Lebron,Wade or even Kobe? What about a young Grant Hill? Just because you dont shoot or hoist up threes doesn't mean you cant and doesn't make you a shooter. If McGrady shoots tham and who ever else does out of kickouts, what wrong with a guy getting either to the rim or mid range? Like i posted earlier, if you live by the 3, you die by the 3. Just check the games in the finals when Dallas became another jump shooting 3 team instead of a attck the rim team like they did against SA or Phoe.
