If Bulls draft Roy at No. 2, trade might be in the works

Trade talk continues to be a significant part of speculation about the Bulls' plans for the NBA draft.

The Bulls could trade the No. 2 pick to a team in exchange for veterans and other picks.

Any deal might not officially happen until after the draft, in which case the Bulls would select a player Wednesday night on behalf of another team.

Washington guard Brandon Roy is the player the Bulls most likely would draft with a trade in mind, with the Houston Rockets among the teams known to be interested in Roy.

The Rockets will not part with Yao Ming or Tracy McGrady, leaving forwards Stromile Swift and Juwan Howard and guard Luther Head as the team's most attractive trade components.

The Bulls also would receive the Rockets' pick, No. 8 overall, where they could select a big guard such as Ronnie Brewer. The 6-foot-7 player from Arkansas is among the top backcourt prospects after Roy and would fulfill the Bulls' stated desire for length and athleticism.

The trade does not appear imminent, however.

i don't see it happening. it's obvious that the bulls need a PF or a C. why would they draft roy, then trade him to the rockets for brewer, a good player but not a need. they already have plenty of talent on the perimeter, frontcourt is their area of need. i seriously doubt this happens.

As much as I love Roy, if you get the #2 pick - you have to look at some other players as well.

No thanks, they have too much leverage on us with the #2 pick. And if we do get that high, Dawson is tempted with Morrison and Gay. Who won't have the all-around game or give the immediate contribution Roy does.

    I don't think they'd take/trade for Roy at 2.

    Idle speculation.

Great, so now the Rockets are talking about trading up to #2, which will probably end up costing us even more than #8+Head. You know, if Brandon Roy does not turn out to be an absolute stud that pushes the Rockets into championship contention next year, the Rockets are going to look really silly pursing him so hard.

I agree, but since we're idling anyway, waiting for the draft and the trades to come, what awful contracts would we have to take on from the Bulls to make this crazy scenario occur?

I still laugh at all these post... about how a pick this year can seriously put us on top to at least reach the play-offs.... hahah

For heaven sakes mid-way through last season nobody even knew the names of the players on the draft albeit a few..

And everyone since the beginning of the season has stated how weak of a draft this is...

Trade the damn pick and Stromile,Howard,or Head for Proven Players....

All of these rumors are crap. Everyone is trading everything, even if it doesnt make sense. Luther is going to 5 different teams at the same time all for one guy.

Getting rid of Luther would be a neccessary evil but still worth it to get Roy.

If we tossed in either Stromile or Juwan it would be icing on the cake for us to unload either of those two saleries. I'm guessing they would want Stromile because of his age and upside but they could want Juwan because he is still better than Stro...IMO.

Norm Hitzges talked about this very scenario this morning on Sportsradio 1310, The Ticket citing information from his NBA sources. Norm believes Roy to be the most NBA-ready player in the draft. He also believes that the Rockets badly want Roy because the organization truly believes that McGrady+Yao+Roy=Championship. Roy's agent is also Tmac's agent which also gives them some inside interest or traction. I have to admit that I find this scenario intriguing to say the least.

They don't have any bad contracts, except for maybe Chandler.

I wouldn't say Roy = championship. I do think Roy = starting SG on a playoff ready team that needs a starting SG, and not a midget one.

If their target will be available at #8, I don't see why they wouldn't. They would probably like to get Stro and maybe Head and still draft the guy that they want.
They're under the cap, so they could absorb the contracts. Also, Howard's a Chicago guy, maybe they wouldn't mind taking him off of our hands.
