And the WH was the source of the leak. What's your point?

I think leaks from major agencies is standard practice. For a while, the Bush administration was really good at keeping everyone in line and not having important info get leaked.

Those days, however, are long gone.

Correct. There are a number of national security bureaucrats who have decided to wage a war on the war on terror via the press. It's basically a palace coup.

I'm thrilled that the there will be troop withdrawals, but how do Reps. who have been blasting Dems. for this very idea justifiy it in their brains? With retoric like "cut and run", how can they now believe that BS like that was anything other than polictical grandstanding?

Or does this mean that bush is giving a victory to the terrorists? ;)

They know perfectly well that this is election year posturing. The whole, "cut and run," BS is just that... bull ****. The Bush Administration is going to do what Democrats have been calling for, while sloganeering this garbage like mad. You have people like Chuck Hagel telling it like it is (and how I wish he were a Democrat. I'd trade Leiberman for Hagel, and toss in a year's worth of El Rancho margaritas to get the guy in my party, which is where he belongs!), but he is the rare exception in the current crop of bought and paid for GOP members of Congress. The cynicism of the Bush Administration and the GOP Congress knows no bounds. It's enough to make you want to hurl your breakfast.

Don't sell the trade cheap, be willing to throw in Hillary in the trade for Nagel. You might also throw in some VIP passes to the titty bar of their choice.

I will say it now and I will say it in November,:...There is a differance between withdrawing for the sake of it,...and progress as a prerequisite for withdrawal...If you look at the big picture, there is indeed substantial progress in the governmental setup and progress towards Iraqi Brigades, and such civil service responsibilities...As the progress furthers itself, then troop withdrawal is proper and allowable...

Say "NO" to blatant cut and running, along with vomiting...Say "Yes" to eating a good breakfast and proper troop withdrawal dependent on measurable progress...

ROX, there is no "cutting and running" being discussed by Democrats. The Bush Administration and the Republican Congress are putting out that crap, pure political propaganda, while busily "cutting and running," as defined by THEM.

Oh, and just to be clear on one point, Kerry is an idiot. So is George W. Bush. In my opinion.

"Withdrawal has to happen sometime Mr. Frist...This is akin to saying we are there forever or what? I understand your statement Mr. Frist, and I hope I am not understanding you out of context, but I believe withdrawal dependent on measurable progress is a clear and distinct strategy than a unreasoned cut and run strategy which is independent of progress whatsoever..."

Cutting and running is what happens when you have weirdos screaming "pull them out!" with no basis of a stategy which involves a barometer of measurable progress as a direct indicator involving the scope and manner of withdrawal...Progress is happening when you see the new Iraqi government succeed key positions, voting, and various agreements...Progress happens when the new military brigade is stronger, better and thus more independent...As such, withdrawal is a proper and allowable strategy since it helps the Iraqi build increased confidence...

It hurts to say this, but there is that kind of discussion of "cut and running" sans progress. Hillary heard this loud and clear when she was booed by introducing a line of thinking concerning progress as a prerequisite for withdrawal...That is how I took it...

I have a lot more respect for Hillary and especially if she can avoid the far left from pulling her down to a "group think manner"...She has impressed me a lot!...(now if we can ensure she doesn't attack gun rights like her husband did in 1993 that would be the hammer)

Idiot is a harsh word, and I'm trying to never use that again,...but yeah I agree with that word to describe both Kerry and Bush... :)

The problem here is that Nixon set the standard with his Vietnamization scheme, which was basically cutting and running while making it look like a rational, slow, well thought out plan to put the South Vietnameese in charge of their own house. In fact they knew that the South Vietnamese army and government would fold like a house of cards.

They described their plan quite a bit like the way you are talking about this plan.

I will not pass judgement at this point, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. If the plan is implimented and we leave the country and the Iraqi government which we set up collapses it a year, then it was cutting and running. If stability results then we weren't.

"Cut and run" also sounds like an appropriate strategy when you wake up in the morning next a woman and your beer goggles have worn off.
