The Hawk's owner said that they are gonna go big in the draft. Mentioned that they don't want anyone w/ injury or character problems.

I won't be suprised if the Hawks pick Shelden at #5, but only if he is the best big man available.

Does Gay's foot speed scare anyone else. I know he's long and all, but didn't he test sort of slow?

I think Gay has good speed for someone who is 6'9". He tested out better athletically than Roy according to NBADraft.Net.

Being from UConn, I've seen him in the gym and during all of his games the last few years and he would be a great fit with the Rockets. While he did play with a passive attitude at times in college he can take over a game whenever he wants. He has a deadly mid range jumper and range out to the 3 pt. line, not to mention quick leaping ability and a desire to throw it down on offense and good shot blocking ability on defense. Being the third option on this team will be perfect for him until he develops that killer instinct and he will be dropping plenty of 20 point nights while everyone is concentrating on Yao and T-Mac.

Anyone else think would be kinda wierd to be wearing a Rockets jersey with GAY on the back?

    LETS GO ROY!!!!

ROY looks a lot better on the back of a jersey.... :D

It would be very dangerous to go through Hollywood, especially W Hollywood, out here in LA with a GAY jersey! :D

Spot on! IMO, Gay would be an excellent fit with the Rockets. It is hard to imagine that there is any chance he falls to #8 in this draft. Even in a worst case scenario (assuming he gets past Char & Portland), I just cannot see both Min and Boston (even though they have other needs) passing on him.

Here are some links about Gay's skills as a player (note that none of them says his foot speed and quickness is anything but excellent):

Assuming he has a good work ethic (which scouts.com says he does), he has serious upside potential (unlike Darius Pot-head Miles) at a much more reasonable price tag. Yet another reason to strike a deal with Atlanta for #5 and just SAY NO TO MILES. I'm with Johnathan Feign on this one.

I agree with most of what you said, but to claim that Gay would be unstoppable if he developed an NBA 3-point shot is far-fetched. The guy can't put the ball on the floor consistantly yet. So really he's got 2 major areas that need work, but if he gets better in both then the sky's the limit.

Kinda sounds like Eddie Griffin part 2...let's not get too excited, remember theses are the same Rockets that couldn't shoot all year, I'd rather have an atletic 2/3 that can make plays and put points on the board

He can put the ball on the floor and pass better than Griffin. On top of that he has a good pull up jumper that is virtually unstoppable because of his height and release point. Griffin took more spot up threes but couldn't really create.

Don`t the hawks have enough young power forwards.........didn`t they draft a power forward last year....no way they draft sheldon williams w/out trading the nc-guy they drafted last year...and that would be admitting they screwed up last year`s draft!! People.execs/teams don`t do that very often these days....the texan`s still think they made the right decision.....i still want a redo...on that one!!!!

I want a trade wih swift, and head in it so that we can get jj redick and another piece in the top 8....jj probably slips to 11-15 range....an jj and roy,(yes i know they are both 2`s, but we are going to need to play players around yao that can score, a la pheonix/dallas....jj...tim thomas....jj and rudy gay....although gay`s lack of intensity scares me, and thomas lack of skills scares me...it`s one thing to dominate in collee b/c of athleticism...but when that doesn`t work in the nba, what do you fall back on?...but head`s srengths are what are team doesn`t need..another slasher who can`t shoot and is too short...unless he can shoot...like a steve nash.....shooters always have a place on a team........a la price at cleveland....roy has the all around game....thomas if he grades out close to an amare as a beast on athleticism alone......i would be happy with reddick/brewer...reddick/carney....we need two wing players in this draft one two, and a 2/3 swing or small forward....not expecting much out of tracy....and he might play a whole lot less minutes.....maybe even better at a power forward in a small line-up against a nov/or a small pheonix team (unless amare comes back full strength)....but tracy will need somebody playig heavy minutes behind him, as he will miss 10 games just do to his back tightening up alone.....if he goes injury free next year...his loss of athleticism is significant compared to kobi`s....and kobi is older i think!

I have yet to read/hear about Gay punching out a teammate so the Eddie Griffin comparison is moot

That's the longest sentence I have ever read. :)

The Hawks are actually filled w/ a bunch of young small forwards. Childress, Josh Smith, and Marvin Williams (last year's pick) are all small forwards. And even though some consider Williams a PF, he doesn't have the rebounding or the defensive ability to be a factor at PF IMO.

Outside a PG, the Hawks biggest need is a player that can rebound and play defense down low. While I think that Shelden at #5 is pretty high for him, the truth is that he is the best rebounder and defender coming out of the draft right now, he just doesn't have the potential like the other big men do.
