According to draftexpress: Gibson never regained the starting point guard spot at Texas and there were major questions whether he would be given the chance to work on his point guard skills in his junior year after the recruitment of McDonald’s All-American point guard DJ Augustin and the emergence of rising sophomore AJ Abrams. Gibson announced he’ll be staying in the draft at the pullout deadline and is widely believed to have a promise after conducting only two workouts (with Cleveland and Houston) and withdrawing from the Orlando pre-draft camp at the last minute.
Gibson is no Jason Williams. Houston needs a Jason Williams to contend. BTW, where are the doubters that said JW could not be the starting PG on a championship team?!
Well, Gibson fits that backup PG role that we need and he is a shooter as well. He had a disappointing sophomore year after a stellar freshman season. He still has a ton of potential but is really gonna have to work on his ball handling and decision making skills. I was thinking that he may have gotten a guarantee from us as well but I really think it's Cleveland that gave it to him (if he got one). Gibson fits Cleveland's team the best. Also, IIRC Gibson may have turned down the Rocket's request for a 2nd workout, I forgot where I read that.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=114210 Take it for what's it worth, but in the other thread the Rockets source said that the Rockets don't do promises.
I'd take a flyer on him at 32. Gibson has loads of potential, if he could ever get consistent I think that'd be a solid pick.
You certainly are consistent after all of these years. You are right, though, Houston definitely needs this type of playoff performance to win it all: 29.8 mpg, 40.5 fg%, 27% 3pt%, 3.9 apg (2.5/1 a/to), 9.3 ppg He is clearly the reason the Heat won it all.
Who cares about all these "promises" players are getting? I've also heard rumors that Daniel Gibson was "promised" to go to the Cavs in the first round...
i think dawson is in love with novak. cleveland needs a pg as well, i think gibson got the promise from them.
Whoopee. For some reason, I just can't get excited about our 2nd pick at all. In this weak draft, the odds of the player lasting more than one season is slim. I think it's going to be a few years before Gibson becomes an effective NBA player (if he ever is).
A second rounder isn't going to help much. We should get a guy we can stash overseas for a couple of years to develop.
i heard on 610, not sure if it was the weekend crew of 610 or sporting news radio, but they said that Cleavland was very interested in Daniel Gibson with their first round pick. Can anybody confirm?
Daniel Gipson? LOL - that guy was a big flop at Texas. He was hardly all that great. Maybe he will be a better pro, but at a measly 6'3" in shoes, I don't have high hopes. DD
Same height as the MVP of the league, 2 inches taller than the starting point guard on the NBA Champions, 3 inches taller than the recent Rookie Of The Year...need I go on? That said, I DO NOT WANT DANIEL GIBSON. Nothing to do with his height though. And about the promises...it makes 10x more sense that it's Cleveland and not us. They've come out and said they like him, and they have a first round pick, which might be why Gibson stayed in the draft (guaranteed money).
JW's primary responsibility as PG of the Heat was: Watch Wade bring the ball up the court and score. If Wade has no options (rare), be there so he can give up the ball for a quick reset.
God, Jason Williams was terrible for Miami. I'll advised three's, couldn't pass to shaq, didn't make any heady defensive plays, and made some dumb passes. The only reason he started was because he was there. You could replace him with any starting PG of any nba team and the heat still would've won.
i read about that. gibson has only worked out for the rockets & cavs before pulling out of the orlando predraft workouts. this is what some people in the media are basing their speculation on.
Gibson definitely had a disappointing sophomore year, but I would hardly call him a "big flop." A 6'3" PG is good size, but of course that only matters if you see him as a PG. Like I said, he really needs to improve his handles and his decision making, the scoring ability is there. The kid still has a lot of potential and I think he would be a great pick at #32. But I bet the Cavs get him first.
