We should pull the trigger on a trade for Mehmet Okur. He is the ideal PF the Rockets need next to Yao and TMAC. His age and his abilities make him the perfect complement to our two stars. Okur is 27, TMAC is 27, and Yao is 26 all about to hit their prime. Houston Trade Breakdown Outgoing Maciej Lampe 6-11 PF from Poland (Foreign) 0.7 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.3 apg in 4.7 minutes Luther Head 6-3 PG from Illinois 8.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.7 apg in 28.9 minutes Stromile Swift 6-9 PF from Louisiana State 8.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 0.4 apg in 20.4 minutes Incoming Mehmet Okur 6-11 PF from Turkey (Foreign) 17.9 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 2.4 apg in 35.9 minutes Change in team outlook: -0.5 ppg, -0.1 rpg, and -1.0 apg. Utah Trade Breakdown Outgoing Mehmet Okur 6-11 PF from Turkey (Foreign) 17.9 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 2.4 apg in 35.9 minutes Incoming Maciej Lampe 6-11 PF from Poland (Foreign) 0.7 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.3 apg in 4.7 minutes Luther Head 6-3 PG from Illinois 8.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.7 apg in 28.9 minutes Stromile Swift 6-9 PF from Louisiana State 8.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 0.4 apg in 20.4 minutes Change in team outlook: +0.5 ppg, +0.1 rpg, and +1.0 apg. Successful Scenario Due to Houston and Utah being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Utah had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. With the 8th pick we select Ronnie Brewer and witht eh MLE we sign Matt Harpring (for those JJ redick lovers). This would give us a lineup of: Ming/Mutombo Okur/Howard/Hayes Mcgrady/Novak/Bowen Brewer/Harpring Alston/Sura
If this was possible Iwouldn't mind having a quality player like Okur on the Rockets. A lot depends on how much we would have to pay him? Yes we would still have to have Mike James and even another decent player. Our Rookie stars from the draft would have to learn the NBA game from the bench. Sura ?
IF Utah would do it, then it's a pretty "duh!" move if you ask me. However, they wouldn't do that in a million years.
Shouldn't a trade make sense for all the participating teams? This makes no sense from Utah's prespective. They'd give up their starting center (who is preety good in his own right: good scorer, decent rebounder, and a three point shooter to boot) for....Swift?Lampe? Don't be ridiculous :/ .
Utah would do it because it will give them the starting backcourt of Deron and Luther former teammates with good chemistry. Swift would give them added muscle to the front line to replace the void left by Okur. They would then let Harpring go and make a run a Maggete Collins/Sene Boozer/Swift AK47/ Maggete/Head Williams/ If it means swapping the #8 for the #14 i would still do it...Foye,Carney,Brewer, or Reddick should still be around for that pick
"we should pull the trigger" indicates that Utah wants to do this deal. No way would they even consider it.
The Okur deal is a horrific idea but I like Harpring. I actually think (and hope) that we pursue him this offseason. He can score and shoot, is a tough rebounder and plays good defense. I think he'd fit in well with Houston.
Unless Okur is begging to be traded or Utah needs cap space there is no way this trade would ever happen
Utah does not need anymore big guys than what they have, other than backups. Okur was their starting center a majority of the season. He brought in better rebounding than Swift and can shoot 3's quite well.
Harpring? A 30 years old SF (same position as Tmac) with microfracture surgery on his medical record?
Genius. "Hey guys, lets trade our garbage and one decent back up tweener for a borderline all-star talent." But the genius doesn't even stop there. "Hey guys, lets convince Utah to trade us a really good white guy for two mediocre black guys and a white guy that will never ever crack an NBA rotation." The guy who started this thread doesn't seem to understand two things: 1. The Jazz like talented players. 2. The Jazz like white guys.
I don't know about that. It'd be one thing if he was called "Carl", which is a lot more white than "Karl".
