I looked at his scouting report. Both seem very similar, and Sene is expected to get drafted as high as 11 but not fall past 20. A team that drafts him will be drafting pure potential. This is actually a good thing for the Rockets.
Ive just heard of this kid but I like what I see, at the very least he can be the next mutumbo and hopefully he falls to us at 32
In this video he actually looks like a basketball player: http://draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1358 He's raw and skinny, but the way he handles the pass, shoots, dunks, and especially the way he moves on defense is very smooth for a guy that's as inexperienced as he is. I've never seen Badinae so I can't compare them, but in terms of Sene, how much worse offensively is he than Chandler or Big Ben? Not much worse (if any) in my eyes.
I'm actually very intrigued by Sene. I'll be keeping an eye on him more than any rookie who isn't wearing Rocket Red, he definately has the potential to be the next great shot blocker since Mutombo, especially with that reach.
At the very least?!?! So at the very least he's going to be a multiple All-Star/defensive player of the year and rank among the all time leaders in blocked shots when he retires? If that were the very least he could be there is absolutely no way he wouldn't be a lock for the top 5 picks - probably top 3. I'm going to go ahead and assume you're referring to Mutumbo on our bench the last few seasons and not the over-all career of Mutumbo.
Perhaps Keon Clarke could be a good comparison. Athletic, long reach, good energy in a reserve role...

i saw him play in the US Hoops Summitt against the US junior team full of this year's high school all-stars and he was extremely impressive. he's a terrific athlete with a great feel for the game. he's still raw offensively, mostly dunks and layups, but defensively he's very advanced. he blocks shots well, is an excellent rebounder, and gets good position. he is very deserving of middle to late first round consideration.
as far as i know, Badiane had a injury right before the draft which caused him to fall from the first round. If i recall correctly he would have been a mid to late first rounder.
Badman was considered a late first rounder. He was also in a draft class that is considered both star studded and deep. Sene is a mid first rounder in one of the weaker drafts.
Has Badiane ever recorded 10 blocks against a USA team like Sene did in that video? I'm going to go way out on a limb and say "HELL NO".
to me, whats the harm in bringing over badiane? whats the difference between him, dj mbenga, saer sene, and desagana diop? all are: long shot blockers solid rebounders extra defensive help garbage points on offense
- He takes up a roster spot. - We're already crowded at PF. - We'd have to dip into the MLE. - He's got a very good chance of being NOTHING in the NBA. Do we really need any more reason to leave him overseas?
i was thinking of him as a replacement center, seeing as that we have no one to back up yao. and considering itll cost considerably more to find a replacement in FA and youre taking as much as a gamble in trying to find one in the draft (which we wont), that also prompts the "why not"
Dikembe didn't suddenly break, and he's still on the team this year. He is still about as effective as any other backup center in the league not named Alonzo Mourning. He just got less minutes this past season because we had Stromile to play some 5 when Yao was out. He still got about 5 rebounds and a block in 15 minutes. There's nothing wrong with that. NEXT season, yeah, we need to look into a backup, but it needs to be someone legitimate. The C position should be the LEAST of our worries for the next 6 or 7 years, and that means getting a solid backup without taking chances on someone like Badiane. If he's DEFINITELY ready to come over at some point then sure, bring him. He's not yet.
First of all, I don't think any of us have seen Badiane sucks enough to warrant a judgement of "he sucks." That said, I'm pretty sure if he was good, he'd be over here.
