Well, we are dropping the kiddos off in July and heading out for about 6 days of alone time with each other. Our annual - remember why we got married - trip. However, we are struggling to decide what to do, we would like to go somewhere a little cooler, but would not rule out warmer if it was really fun. Also, we would like to go somewhere different. The last 4 years we have gone to : Disney World Cancun Lake Tahoe San Fran/Napa Valley Any suggestions for cool trips to do here in the USA/Canada would be appreciated. Thanks, DD
Colorado is freakin beautfiul. Get a cabin up in the Rocky Mtn. National Park area...or anything really in the western part of the state where the mountains are.
alone time? ::snickers:: You don't remember why you got married? Take her to that bar you found her at. serious How about Disney Land? Vancouver, BC Las Vegas, NV Tiajuana, Me he co. Hot Springs, AR
Man...You need to go to banff/ lake louise/ jasper/ waterton/ national parks in the canadian rockies (breathtaking sights… if you into that stuff…Vancouver is hands down the sexiest city in North America…if you havn’t been you need to check it out.)
You probably don't have the time, but a resort on Maui, or one of the other Hawaiian Islands, would be fabulous. Soft sandy beaches, great food, a wonderful view, and just enough things to do to give you time to recharge your batteries from why you really do something like this. I'm envious, and looking forward to everyone's suggestions. We may do something like this later in the summer to get away from the kiddos, but major getaway time will be next summer, when my wife can take 6 to 8 weeks off. One of the benefits of working for the state for decades! You won't be able to manage this, but the Kaslo Jazz Etc Summer Music festival in BC is a total gas. It's the first weekend in August, the Canadian Labor Day weekend. An old friend of mine, a native Texan who's now a Canadian citizen as well, and has been there for 20+ years, started it. Here's a link: http://www.kaslojazzfest.com/main.html Limited tickets, and it sells out every year. The village of Kaslo is cool, the people are friendly, half the town counsel (at least) are hippies, there's Indian hieroglyphics across the lake on the cliffs by the water, hot springs to bath in not far from town, gorgeous parks, mountain climbing. Really cool. Oh, and anyone who's wondering, that's really a floating stage, and floating "green rooms," for the musicians. Not just jazz, but blues, Brazilian, etc., different kinds of world music. Jazz is the main thing, however.
Already went there....and it was AMAZING ! Some of the places we have discussed. Yellowstone Boston Maine So far, nothing has grabbed us yet. DD
I'm going here, the ticket's a little more expensive, but if your vacation is over a week it'll probably break even cost-wise. A cruise to Cozumel or something is also not bad.
Instead of just 'where' consider 'what' There are some pretty cool totally supported Kayak trips you can do off Vancouver Island. Probably a few in other places too. Broken Islands on the West Coast is where we went a few years ago. Trips are up to a week. We did it on our own (budget ) but I know a few people who've done them with touring groups and they rave about the trips. A big advantage to Kayaks is that you don't have to be in as good shape as you would for a bike trip or hike. You can also bring as much stuff as you want -- beer / wine / you name it -- weights not an issue! Your guides plan it all out...cook you gourmet meals on some tours, and all you do is go and enjoy. A B&B tour of the Pacific Northwest is another option.
Here's a list of places that I want to go to, maybe it'll give you some ideas Alaska Canadian Rockies (Banff/Jasper) US Virgin Islands Hawaii Quebec (Montreal/Quebec City)
Montreal? There are nonstop flights from Houston to Calgary and Jackson Hole, making the Kanaskis/Banff/Jasper trip pretty easy or the Yellowstone tour. Both are incredibly beautiful and a great break from Houston heat.
