You know, we can keep pretending that the Rockets are somehow meking serious efforts to move up into the very top of this draft, in the hopes that they will draft one of the 'consensus' top guys we all like.

We can keep pretending that, even if they don't make a move, that they will still draft a great addition at #8 we all like, such as Brewer.

We can even keep pretending that, even if we move down instead of up, possibly ending up with two mid-first-round picks, they will still draft strong candidates we all like, such as Carney, and/or Redick.

But don't the hairs on the back of your neck prickly just a bit when thinking about all this, especially given the Rockets' draft history?

Personally, I would love to be able to finally, once and for all, exorcise the demons of Jamerson/Cheivous/Turkcan/Drew/Rhodes/Griffin/ad infinitum - and the Rockets' affinity for nonchalantly wasting first-round picks. I would love for them to just go ahead and pick from the few guys who seem to be across-the-board satisfactory candidates. especially given the unknown nature of the top of this particular draft.

However, I can't forget the past so easily, at least not until after the draft.

So, in that spirit, and after, frankly, being sick to death of hearing peoples' opinions on who we SHOULD take, I would be more interested now in hearing peoples' opinions on who the Rockets should NOT take, and why it will make you cry when they take him. And I don't mean for anyone to be goofy and toss some unknown second round guy in there, I mean serious first-rounder material, just guys we don't want, shouldn't want, but could inexplicably end up with.

    For example:

It would not surprise me in the least if we hear something like, 'With the 8th pick in the 2006 Draft, the Houston Rockets Select... Saer Sene, 7-foot Center from Thies, Senegal.'

With the way Sene has supposedly been 'shooting up' draft boards lately, I could actually see that happening. Totally out of left field, unexpected, leaving all of us scratching our heads and in disbelief.

That's just an example, I don't have any particuler reason for it. After all, 'conventional' wisdom points at Brewer, Redick or Carney. But still, it's not like the Rockets haven't left us feeling like that on Draft Night before.

So who is your 'please God no!' pick for the Rockets ?

Right now I am a little gun-shy on any players that dont have a high motor or players that are one dimensional.

Nothing shocks me on draft night, every year we have picked out one or two guys who we all think they are going to take and then they take somebody we never seriously considered, if that happens this year I'm hoping it is Cedric Simmons.

Brewer or Foye. Brewer may be the best size to athleticism to skill ratio, but Foye is more of a scorer and thats a huge need on this team.

i'm not saying the rockets haven't pulled some draft picks out of their ass in the past but couldn't you say that about any team in any sport ever? i'm nervous about who we're going to get but the rocket's draft history doesn't really come into play for me.

Chill, they may pick a name you love and he busts bigtime, they may pick name that blows your mind and he could be Sam Cassell. Any reaction on draft night is pure speculation either way.

It's fun but it's nothing to get too worked up about. I'm sure the board will goes crazy if they pick Reddick. We will all worry if they pick Carney.

Just remember we were all ecstatic with Eddie Griffin.

The topic is about who you DON'T want to be in Rockets uniform, I believe.

The Rockets trade the number eight pick for a seasoned All Star caliber point guard, Stephon Marbury.

While i don't want the Rockets to draft Sene at 8, i am definately intrigued by him and he will be the one rookie i will really keep an eye out for to see how he does.

Foye is probably the only player i don't want to see picked by us. While we need all the talent we can get, i think we need it more at other positions.

I have visions running through my head of the Rockets draftin Maurice Ager. I really have no idea why, but I do, and at #8 I would weep.

I have thought of them drafting him too at #8 as well as Cedric Simmons who I don't think we need right now. Patrick O'Bryant is another guy that I can see us pulling out of left field. However I would not be upset if we traded for a later pick and drafted Ager as well as another talent. I totally agree with this thread though, I know the Rocket's brass will shock everyone somehow and will not go with the favorite but let's hope it turns out well. I think Foye would be an excellent addition, but everyone will be shocked if his name is called at #8 because of all the talk about an athletic SG/SF type. Let the anticipation begin.

Dear God, you've hit it. Probably the biggest combination of "Bust Potential" + "Position that we don't need".

And with the 8th pick in the NBA draft the Houston Rockets select: Oleksiy Pecherov the Euro stiff who will always remind us of that classic bust Mirsad Turkan!!!!

My NBA Draft spider sense (which makes my ears tingle) is telling me, Darth Vader-style, to say "Noooooooooooooo!!" to Tyus Thomas. I have no basis to backup my feeling, though. It's just a gut instinct.

Brewer. I don't want the Rockets to pick up a shooting guard that doesn't have NBA 3pt range to begin with, and Brewer further has a physical impediment to improving his shot. I have seen where having "slashers" got the Rox last year, and it wasn't pretty. We need someone that can knock down open shots.
