Richard Jefferson doesn't have an outside shot. We need a shooter. We'd hae to give up too much to get someone who wasn't a shooter.

Huh? He's a good shooter, just not a 3pt bomber. Who else would punish double teams on Yao and Tracy any more than RJ? He's a scorer who can play defense which is what we need. He's better than any limited spot up jumper we could possibly get.

You got to love our incredibly inflated thoughts on Rocket player value. Swift, Head, and the #8 for Richard Jefferson? Even Antoine Walker would be a more attractive offer to the Nets than that.

Jefferson's 25, is a borderline all-star, a fantastic number 2 piece for almost any ball club. He's not going anywhere for two backups and a draft pick in a mediocore draft class.

More sensible trade options (though not to say that they are likely to occur):
    Indiana - O'Neal
    Lakers - Odom

    Evan

You guys should maybe throw your trades against the wall (realGM or ESPN trade checker) before you post them. It'd save us all from a lot of unnecessary posts. With that said, this actually works...

    Howard, Swift, Head

    for

    Jefferson, Padgett, Robinson, Vaughn

I'm speculating that we could trade picks with them (8 for the 23) to sweeten the deal, because otherwise I don't see why the hell they would do it, honestly. They'd be MUCH better off at PF, sure, but then what? Why trade away an all-star to get "solid" at a weaker position? Maybe they like someone to come in and start at SF with the #8 pick, and Head might interest them with his youth, but really this whole thing is just a pipe dream. I'm not sure I'd want to do it anyway, considering we'd be strapped with 3 max contracts.

He's a good scorer, and can shoot from about 17ft. and in. We need players that can hit the perimeter shot. Jefferson isn't one of those.

17ft isn't the perimeter? And I completely disagree our 3rd option has to be a 3pt bomber. A scorer (not just a shooter) like RJ who can kill teams at 17ft and take it to the rack is BETTER than a 3pt shooter. Plus he can play very good defense on the perimeter. He's the ideal compliment.

Seventeen feet is a mid range shot. I guess our 3rd option doesn't have to be a bomber, if we are willing to change our offense. But with Yao and Tracy in the game, I think somebody hitting threes is going to open up the floor a lot more, than another person who can get inside and score.

Jefferson is a great finisher, and moves without the ball very well. He's active, and I think he's definitely a quality player, but unless we change our offense, I don't think that he fits in so well.

With passers like Rafer and Tracy playing the point 99% of the time between them, slashers and players like RJ who move well without the ball will be rewarded. This is just my opinion, but our 3rd option does not have to be a 3pt specialist. That said, we do need to add a bomber or two to the lineup off the bench at least.

As bad as our depth is already, I just don't see trading for RJ, no matter how much of a man-crush JVG has on the guy.

Unless the Nets were on crack and would take #8 and Swift (and we use the TE).

Well, if you'd give stro head to get RJ then you are living up to your moniker, trick-zee. I say good for you.

beggars can't be choosers. last time I checked jefferson was a very talented player. I know we won't be able to get him but give me a break on the 'we need shooters'. yes we need them but we need talent a hell of a lot more.

    one more thing...

we need talent that does not dominate the ball and jefferson would be that even if he isn't a long range bomber. but there is no way we have the talent or pieces for a trade.

I like RJ, but we just can't afford to lose the depth that it would take to get him. If T-Mac isn't involved, it's going to take Stro, our draft picks, Head, maybe Juwan if we're lucky. We would be left with:

    Rafer / ?
    RJ / ?
    T-Mac / Bowen
    Hayes / ?
    Yao / Deke

We would need at least 8 players, including a starting 4, to fill the roster with the MLE, TE's and minimum contracts.

if all it takes is Stro, Head, and a number 8 - the Rox would be absolutely insane not to do this.

depth? depth? depth? First lets get a solid starting
5 before we start worrying about depth. I'd trade Mcgrady and Swift for Jefferson and Kristic and their first round pick and not look back. Rockets need to do something, make some noise, change things up, and give JVG and the best damn coaching crew in the league a healthy starting 4 that is worth a damn around the best center in the league.

If Jefferson and Kidd weren't getting along, wouldn't New Jersey rather trade Kidd than Jefferson beacuse Kidd is pretty old. I would trade Jho and Swift for Kidd and maybe Antoine Wright.

I would wet myself if we got Jefferson without giving up tmac or Yao, but sorry to say that wont happen.
You have to give quality players to get quality players, and besides the big two we have none.

(Know had we kept Mike James and resigned him.......... but I wont open that can of worms.)

    Exactly.

I would basically scratch off Yao and Tmac and would tell the Nets to pick anyone and everyone they want.
