Go figure: As the Heat were celebrating the biggest win in franchise history, Dallas owner Mark Cuban stormed onto the floor, complaining about a non-call against Wade a few other plays in the final seconds. All the Mavericks were hot, especically Dirk Nowitzki, who first punted the ball into the stands and then kicked a stationary bike in a hallway before turning his anger on anything in his way. "We gave the signal, 'Second free throw, timeout.' One of our players was saying timeout. I said, 'Yeah, after the second one,"' Johnson said. "Pretty much most people who have ever been involved in the NBA for 20, 30 years, know we wouldn't want one anyway with only one timeout," he said. "So we were pretty dumbfounded that that couldn't get relayed." (of course if you have 2 timeouts left, it's possible to call a timeout before the second freethrow. But the refs dont keep a count of timeouts. Too dumb for Josh) After the Mavericks left the floor, Cuban continued to scream at DeRosa, then went to the scorer's table and stared at NBA commissioner David Stern and other league officials. He was on the court another 10 minutes before walking away, shaking his head with each step - Yahoo
Cuban is a dumbass. The best way for the mavs to screw themselves is to piss off the commissioner and refs. The league has the final matchup they want, and the winner doesn't really matter at this point, from a financial aspect. Who do you think Stern would prefer to win at this point?
The Mavs wouldn't be in the Finals if not for a few lucky calls going their way against the Spurs. It's just a part of the game. Wade got a call with 1.9 on the clock and I was thinking this looks like the call Dirk got against the Spurs at the end of regulation. In the old days refs swallowed their whistles and let the players decide the outcome. Cuban can scream and yell all he wants the fact is the Mavs missed 4 out of six free throws at the end of the game. Dampier hit one of two, Dirk hit one of two, and Howard missed both. Can the Mavs bounce back and win this series now knowing they've given the Heat two games and let Wade beat them over and over again. If they use the injustice of being cheated by the refs it could motivate them to win. On the other hand, they are now facing elimination and if they tighten up any those jumpers are going to start clanging iron.
Here is Mark Cuban about to cry. http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/VideoPlayer/videoPlayer.php?vidId=71403&catId=104
He's chewing gum to fight back the tires, haha. Why couldn't they just wait to call a timeout after Wade made his freethrow? It's that easy, they just made it more complicated for themselves.
Firstly let me just say that I do not like Dallas at all, given that I'm a Rockets fan. But to be fair last night they did get robbed by the officials, (the backcourt violation and other calls), and the refs helped out Miami tremendously with free throws or the game would not even be close. They should have won that game. That being said, now they know how the Rockets felt in last years playoffs when we got robbed many times.
You know, normally you see a team get hosed by the refs... and no matter what you truly think about that team, you kind of feel bad for them. But, in this case, the whining, complaining, cursing, foot-stomping, and outlandish behavior of the Mavs has just made me HATE them 10x more. Seeing the Mavs fans, and Dallasites go out and complain... as if this title is owed to them because Dallas is such a great city... is just bringing the HATE for Dallas to full steam. Cuban's antics are old... I know he's a "passionate fan", and a lot of people would like their owners to be "passionate fans"... but the average passionate fans don't get to sit with the team, yell at the refs, yell at the comissioner, and hold post-game press conferences like Cuban does. He is an OWNER, first and foremost, and should conduct his business in the manner that most professionals (who are billionaires) would do so.
Yes, they should have won that game. Josh Howard should have made at least one of those free throws in the last minute of OT...but he choked. And as Rockets fans, we should all enjoy seeing that. Both calls (or non-calls) were questionable...but if Howard makes one free throw it goes to double OT, if he makes two they probably win. He blew two chances to win there, and another chance when he used the last timeout.
I don't understand why people are saying this. If Miami hit for more than 32 of their 49 FT attempts (good for a blistering 65% clip), this game is over in regulation. They left 17 points on the table!
This is big time Karma. All the flops and when Finley took the ball from out-of-bounds during the rockets Playoff game... This is sweeeeet. I don't mind if they still win, I'm sure Cuban and the rest of the gang are mentally tortured at this time.
For the same reason that teams don't seek out advice from message boards regarding trades, how to run a team, and what should be done to help the team improve... we're fans, and we're going to speak our mind without thinking. Cuban does all of that because he is a fan... and has all the emotions that any fan should have. But, it becomes problematic when he expresses these emotions in press-conferences, directly to referees, and directly to commisioners... venues he only has because he is an OWNER. I guess it really has no effect on the game, team, or NBA other than the fact that its portrayed as whiny, annoying, and it may amplify any future calls against his team (because he can then skew it as "they have it out against us because of the way we complain."). He can send in all the tapes, he can keep track of quirky ref stats, and he can privately have all the meetings in the world with Stern regarding his feelings... I really don't care about that. Its when he does stuff like he did after the game last night that I think he goes too far, and it influences my overall opinion about him.
He comes off dorky and arrogant all at once. Meanwhile, he's the owner of a team from Dallas. What else do I need to say?
Do champions drop kick a basketball into the stands? Do champions trash a stationary bike because they lost? Do champions cuss at reporters? Do champions mock a reporter doing his job? The Mavs will not be league champions this year. And I'm happy about it.
