One thing about Shaq, he knows who the best center to play the game really is. In the interview Shaq talked about how great Hakeem is and how Hakeem has been his idol player ever since Shaq's rookie season. He just says how he wants to be like Hakeem. (He can start with those free throws.)

Too bad that despite the number of times Shaq reiterates that Hakeem was/is the best, the media refuses to jump on it (the reverence for Hakeem) as a story.

BTW: Shaq said this at a press conference that aired on NBA.com TV today.

As much as I hate Shaq, that's good to hear. With all the attention Shaq gets, maybe Hakeem will get some too as a result of the media drooling over everything Shaq and the Lakers say. Seriously though, I'm proud of Shaq for saying that. Maybe he's grown up some. Now if he would only stop with the nicknames... [IMG]

Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.

and that Hakeem is quite possibly the only player that ever schooled Shaq. Shaq has been saying it for years now. Nobody listens. It is probably the only fact that Bob Costas won't repeat about the Lakers.

I think of all the players in the NBA, Shaq has the most respect for Hakeem, calling him once "the best player I ever played against".

You'd think a lot more people would pick up on that.

Its only my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Shaq's a decent guy. I understand why people get sick of "Shaq this" and "Shaq that" getting shoved down our throats every time NBC Sports is on, but he's not a bad guy. There are other players with better reasons to hate (eg. Mailman).

And for Shaq on Hakeem; any one who has followed Shaq through the years knows his thoughts, so it really doesn't matter for the people who don't.

Admiration and attention from (mostly no-basketball sense) fans across the US is not a very important thing. Too many of y'all on this board have this bitter "Rocks get no respect" Rodney Dangerfield thing going on. Don't worry about it, it's no big deal.

    Right on Kim!

Only more NBA Championship trophies and rings are going to change that.

    Don't sweat it guys!
