Every year there is a player(s) that slide out of the first round for whatever reason only to become a steal for someone in the second. Who do you predict will slide to us at 32 that could log significant minutes? A few players who I think might slide are: Mardy Collins- hasn't been very impressive in workouts, but a 6'6" PG with a 6'10" reach is a steal in the second. Needs to improve his FT%. Could turn out better than advertised once out of the strict system at Temple. Thabo Sefolosha- Has good handles and a nice first step. Is somewhat of an unknown comodity but could add much needed size at the wing. Oleksiy Pecherov- Very skilled bigman with good consistency on his jumpshot and good intensity. Hilton Armstrong- Good defensive bigman that came into his own offensively this season. With other players like Alexander, Saer Sene, Diaz, and Farmar climbing this draft, he could find himself slipping into the second round.
I wouldn't mind the Rockets taking Oleksiy Pecherov with the 32nd pick. A lot of mocks have him going in the middle of the 1st. I wish I had seem these Euro's play just a little though. Pecherov could turn into another 2nd round gem if he lasts that long.
I'd be perfectly happy with dee Brown, Pittsonggle, or PJ Tucker. I think you are right, Mardy Collins could fall, and I'd be perfectly happy with him. i see it as a surprisingly valuable pick.
uhhh, Darius Washington anyone?....he's a really really athletic, superfast PG, and he'd compliment Rafer well...
List of guys who pulled out of the draft: http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1355 Richard Roby & Tiago Splitter the only widely speculated 1st rounders to go.
I don't know if it would be considered a "slide", but I would like the Rockets to get Mike Gansey with #32 (provided they don't take Reddick in the first round).
Hilton Armstrong would be a huge steal at 32 if he happened to drop that far. Good midrange jumpshooter and shotblocker with great length and good athleticism.
Is this Tiago Splitter guy ever going to get taken? I swear he's pulled out of the past two or three drafts.
I m just wondering, JVG said he expected the team to draft a rotational player at #8 picks. Rotational to JVG, is a player will get 10-14 minutes playing team. So, a player pick at #32, how many minute will he get under JVG??? 1-2 minutes in the garbage time???
Brad Newley also out. In other news: http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1355 <quote>We've learned that British big man Joel Freeland has also decided to leave his name in the draft. Freeland made a name for himself at the RBK Eurocamp in Treviso and is considered a strong candidate to be drafted in the 25-45 portion of the draft. Freeland will be represented by Arn Tellem.</quote> http://www.oregonlive.com/weblogs/blazersblog/ <quote>Chad Ford says there's a report floating around that says someone made a promise to select Englishman Joel Freeland in the second round of this year's NBA draft, and the Blazers are named as one of the teams in the mix. Here's a breakdown on the 6-10 Freeland from Ford: Freeland reminds me a lot of the Knicks' David Lee. He's actually a little taller and a little longer but plays with the same energy and athleticism. He flies up and down the court and has excellent hops. He's very active defensively and has great shot-blocking timing.</quote> http://nbadraft.net/profiles/joelfreeland.asp Any bbs members happen to know much or seen this guy? For some reason I when I read about him I kept on thinking about that fictional story of a future allstar who happened to be an african tribesman practising basketball with makeshift gear and had never played before.
I wouldn't consider it sliding, but Daniel Gibson at 32 is a value pick with upside. The kid is not ready now,but he's young and should have a nice career in the NBA.
I know this is a bit far-reaching and maybe a fantasy, but Jordan Farmer can really help us at the point. I have seen Farmer play in high school, and at UCLA and this guy is the point guard we need. He is a pass first point guard with a great basketball IQ. His jump shot and three point shooting have improved every year. The only negative is that at 6-1/6-2, he is a bit short, but then again, this is not The Dream's NBA where dominant centers like Hakeem, D-Rob, Mutombo, Ewing, and Zo would battle it night in and night out. If you look at the points that dominate, like Nash, Terry, Harris, they are all small guards. Hopefully, if we do get a trade for our number 8, and get a mid-1st rounder, they Rockets will take a good look at this guy. He is a poor man's Steve Nash and thats what we need. Someone who can pass, has the IQ, and isn't selfish.
With the glaring holes we have on our team, if a 1st ROUND QUALITY player "slides" to the 32 pick, more than likely he'll be a rotational player. PT is usually determined on talent and ability, not a selection number.
The best potential sliders have pulled out of the draft. See you next year Rudy Fernandez, Richard Roby, Nick Fazekas, etc. etc.
