With all the World Cup fever around I'm just curious to see what 4 year sporting event people here like more. The World Cup or the Olympics. I not a big futbol fan but enjoy watching games when they are on but don't look forward to the World Cup. OTOH I look forward to the Olympics both summer and winter and will watch them avidly. For me I think part of the reason is I didn't play organized soccer very much as a kid or follow MLS in the US or pro-leagues elsewhere.

The last few olympics, summer and winter, have all sucked.

I'm starting to get into this world cup.. now if only america could score a goal..

world cup. a lot more passion, a lot more on the line.

the summer olympics are pretty damn cool though. i think the winter olympics are a complete waste of time. half the sports in the winters arent even sports IMO.

I definitely like the World Cup more. If you would have asked me that in 2002 I would have told you the opposite, but I think in the World Cup you see a lot more passion.

I gave it a chance this year, but the World Cup sucks. From here on 'til I die, the only WC soccer I'm watching is the US. If that. The game's just horrible.

And no, I don't want any crap about me not understanding soccer...I get it 100%. I just don't like it. Wholeheartedly and unbiased.

    winter games suck.

i like the opening ceremony of the olympics and parade of nations.

the thing about the olympics is it's a bunch of events, while the world cup is just soccer.

i rather watch olympic soccer than something like table tennis, unless theyre flying all over the place and doing cartwheels to hit the ball. if they are, then that's cool.

    WC, period...

I love the passion, the intensity...I don't care too much for it in the States, but there's something about WC that makes it bad azz...

Perhaps you misunderstood. Perhaps I should have been more specific or direct in my phrasing: I understand the appeal of soccer 100%, it just doesn't appeal to me. Other than rooting for the US. And I doubt that to change at any point in my life.

I get soccer, understand it and all, and I've developed more of an appreciation for it over the years, but it never really has appealed to me. Today was probably the first match I've ever watch in virtually its entirity, and it was exciting. When the stakes are high and you have someone to root for that raises the excitement level. Outside of World Cup though, I could barely get through five minutes. By the same token, I love the Olympics, and understand the nuances of many of its sports. But outside the Olympics, I have little interest in watching most of those sports for the same reasons. If I had to choose one, I'll take the Olympics in a heartbeat; though my interest in World Cup might have gone up after the match today!

    Olympics and its not close.

How can you argue with stuff that is mentioned in Greek mythology, or has written history dating back to ~700 BC century.

its not hard to argue at all

there are something in the olympics that are interesting as hell but alot of it is just boring. history has no influence on either
