Really looking forward to it. Dir. of Napoleon Dynamite + Jack Black + Mexican Wrestling + fake Mexican accents = should be damn funny.
Just got back from watching it. I laughed my ass off. John Abruzzi from Prison Break makes an appearance in the movie. Sister Encarnacion is a hottie. Nice article on Black's wrestling partner...I think he has quite a future in Hollywood http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=14146 That's all.
I saw it today. Solid, good movie...BUT, a little too "safe" for me. I think a lot of it was geared toward kids. The theatre I was at had a bunch of them. The thing is the only time I heard any of them laugh was when they heard farts.
I loved it, but I hope that when I see it again on DVD alone, I don't start disliking it the way I do with Napoleon Dynamite.
No doubt, but there weren't that many good moments for kids overall. I did like the quirk factor of many of the characters.
I liked it, but I agree that it seemed a little safer. I didn't know Nick Movies had anything to do with it, so that might be a reason.
i liked it as well. there were a TON of kids packed into the theatre and with the PG rating you knew it was going to be geared towards kids somewhat, but that was one thing that i liked about Nacho Libre. i don't remember hearing one curse word throughout the entire film and i still laughed a lot. it isn't the funniest movie you'll ever see but it is still good.
No kidding about the kids. I went with a couple of my buddies at 3:50pm on Friday and I think we were the only non-parent adults there. About the movie itself, it was ok. I was expecting greatness so maybe that's why I was a little dissappointed.
Saw this last night and was suprised by the heavy Wes Anderson (Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums) influence. Composition, editing, mis-en-scene, even the quirky score and 60's pop songs. You can almost say it was a spiritual/christian Wes Anderson pick. Not suprised by the religious elements in the film or the PG rating. Jared Hess is a devote mormon, husband, and father. What is suprising,based on his current work (Nacho Libre & Napolean Dynamite), is a genuine sincerity with Mexican culture. Not exploitative like Robert Rodriguez. The film was very funny. It was nice to see Jack Black giving deadpan deliveries as opposed to his usual out of control wildman act. Though I doubt a 5 year old will pick up some of the more serious themes, it's definetly kiddy appropriate. Don't go in expecting another Napolean Dynamite. Very few films ever have that sort of pop cult impact.
Talledega Nights looks great. And I guess this movie got heavy push on Nickelodeon? I never saw something in the regular trailers that made me think there would be an abundance of kids looking for it.
