John Mayer's first song from the new album Continuum (out in late summer) is a little different from his usual, but like his other stuff, it's great in its own way. If you have only heard "Body is a Wonderland" and "Daughters" you are seriously missing something. The John Mayer Trio shows both a growth for John's music and a step back to guitar driven blues rock that has been missing from "pop" for quite a while. You can feel SRV and Hendrix pouring through. John's new album is back to a solo project and the first song off the new album, "waiting on the world to change", is playing on the radio now. It is a new generation call for a wake up, much like Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues" (Make me wanna holler!). [BTW Listen to Marvin's song for the "first time" again today, it is completely relevant as it was went it came out.] In "Waiting", you can hear the influences of his recent collaborations, John Scofield, Herbie Hancock, a sprinkle of jazz that adds just the right flavor. You can listen to the new song at the Continuum website at http://www.johnmayer.com/ Here are the lyrics... WAITING ON THE WORLD TO CHANGE me and all my friends we're all misunderstood they say we stand for nothing and there's no way we ever could now we see everything that's going wrong with the world and those who lead it we just feel like we don't have the means to rise above and beat it so we keep waiting waiting on the world to change we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change it's hard to beat the system when we're standing at a distance so we keep waiting waiting on the world to change now if we had the power to bring our neighbors home from war they would have never missed a Christmas no more ribbons on their door and when you trust your television what you get is what you got cause when they own the information, oh they can bend it all they want that's why we're waiting waiting on the world to change we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change it's not that we don't care, we just know that the fight ain't fair so we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change and we're still waiting waiting on the world to change we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change one day our generation is gonna rule the population so we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
I'm a big fan of Mayer's solo work. His new single is pretty good. He's one of the best lyricists out there today.
Not sure if I would go that far, but I do like the Trio record. His version of "Wait Until Tomorrow" is pretty good.
good stuff, mulder. i'm assuming you heard that he's touring this summer/fall with sheryl crow? he played Inner City Blues on tour here two summers back. that was good stuff.
YES! My wife and I were at that show with Maroon 5, place was electric when he played that song with DJ Logic. EDIT: Oh and my wife got the ACL tix as soon as she heard JM was going to be there. No way she was missing that one.
