He's good though. I don't mind a short guard if he can put the ball in the hole. With that said, I'd prefer a bigger 2. Thanks for posting the highlights Amel.
Draft Express also has us taking Foye, ahead of Brewer, Carney and Redick, even though no one on this board is talking about Foye. Interestingly, Draft Express has Foye's "best case scenario" as Mike James.
From the video, I like Carney a lot better than Brewer. He seems more atheletic, quicker, and a better shooting form. Brewer's shooting form is wierd. He will haev a more difficult time to get off a good shot against NBA defenders.
J.J. Redick does have a sweet stroke from the long range. But he looks slow/short. More like a one-dimensional shooter. I doubt if he can create his own shot off a good defender in the NBA.
I think Brewer's video shows his versatility. His shooting form is flawed but he has suprisingly good arc on his shot. I really like his potential on the defensive end of the floor, his long arms really give him advantage on steals, that steal on Gay was nasty. He also showed that he can get to the rim and finish with both hands. Along w/ lack of shooting, I thought we also lacked guys that can drive to the hoop and finish.
Carney really reminds me of Richard Jefferson. Here's Jefferon's Weakness anaylsis from nbadraft.net a couple years back. "Weaknesses: Not a great ball handler or passer but these skills are still developing. Shot can be inconsistent, and doesn't shoot well off the dribble. Statistics did not show continual improvement, granted the team around him improved, but the lack of development is a concern." Almost exactly the same as Carney's. I fear that people will see Carney's video and be like "OMG wow look at his massive dunks, and he never misses a 3! We have to take him now!". Yes, Carney is a high flyer who can hit the three. However, go back and watch the video and tell me how many of those dunks came in the half court. Tell me how many of those dunks came off of his own dribble penetration. Tell me how many shots he SHOULD have taken with his left hand near the basket, but instead used his right. They went in so some may see that as a moot point, but in the NBA you better be able to put the ball up with your off hand when going to the glass or people will read you like a book and throw your stuff into the 3rd row. Bottom line is they showed Carney scoring in transition and hitting 3's, because that's what he does. He doesn't take people off the dribble in the half court set. He settles for the 3 instead. Don't get me wrong...he looks like an absolute monster on the break, but so did Stromile Swift before he came to Houston. We just don't play enough of a transition game to utilize Carney's strengths. I'm fine with taking the guy, but only as a consolation to Brewer. On that note, what the heck is the fuss over Brewer's shooting form? His elbow goes wide. That's all. It's not a slow release, it's not a flat arc, it doesn't have a hitch, and most importantly it goes in at a very good rate. Why would he have any trouble at all getting that off in the NBA?
did anybody watch the Richard Roby highlights, the kid looked pretty good, of course they ARE highlights, but if we can him in the second round i wouldnt mind. Didnt he used to be a projected first round pick?
I had read about him but hadn't seen any footage until now. Seems like a smooth player to me. Would probably benefit him to stay in school at least another year, but I wouldn't mind taking him in the second round as a bit of a project. That is, of course, only if we do a good job of filling our needs through other picks, MLE, trade exceptions, trades, etc.
In the highlight comparisings, I find Brewer to be the better player now. He has a stop and pop, good baseline moves, effective three, more hustle, great speed on a fast break, and good defense. Carney has good speed on fast breaks, a fast release from three, great hops, and a little more stylish game. But if I'm tring to reach the finals, I'd take Brewer. This isn't to say Carney doesn't have more potential as a star, because he does, but Brewer's game seems more complete right now. Just my 2 cents.....
I've wanted Foye for a while, especially since Roy raised his value so much in the tournament. I think we should draft Foye, if nobody falls, and the second choice is Brewer. Foye reminds me of a young D Wade/ Billups lite, scorer (which is what we need), that can attack the basket (new style of nba) and play defense as well.
