how did u all learn how to use chopsticks? i had to ask the chinese people in a chinese restaurant and they taught me for 10 mins.....and i still use the fork today
Let me tell you right now that is NOT how I use chopsticks. Yao's grip just seems too tight. I like it more relaxed.
I learned how to use chopsticks from the little pictures on the side of the package they come in. My girlfriend is Vietnamese, and half the time when we go eat Chinese food, she eats with a fork and I eat with chopsticks. (I'm white - for some reason it's really funny to me, me with chopsticks and her with a fork).
This video has been around since last offseason (I think)...when Yao hosted George Foreman's kids at his restaurant. I remember seeing it a while back. I really wouldn't worry about the way Yao looks in that video.
I am pretty sure Yao's grip is wrong in the traditional sense. I am pretty sure about that because that's the way I use chopsticks in my whole 20+ years and it is always different than most other chinese. It works just fine for me though haha.
Some Chinese cuisines it's impossible to eat with a fork and spoon. For example, it would be quite a challenge to use a fork to eat a bowl of won ton noodle soup. Similar situation when you go to a Vietnamese restaurant for Pho. A fork and a spoon just won't work.
