Man, the Mavs got lucky with: 1) Drafting Howard 2) Getting Harris/Stackhouse from the Wizards 3) Center position solidified w/ getting Dampier into a role player off the bench and picked up a washed up Diop from the Cavs. Their management is seeing things the Rockets aren't.
I'm not bummed, with the eighth pick we can get the next Larry Bird aka Adam Morrison, or the next Stromile Swift aka Tyrus Thomas
I AM ACTUALLY HERE IN DALLAS AND IT IS TOTALLY DISGUSTING BECUZ THATS OUR RIVALS..........AND LET ME TELL YOU.......ONE THING I CAN'T HATE ON HERE IS THE FANS IN DALLAS.....THEY RELLY LOVE THERE TEAM HERE...I MEAN EVERY PERSON WALKIN THE FACE OF THE STREETS HERE LOVE THE MAVS.....ITS ALMOST MANIACAL.......EVERYONE FROM BLACK TO WHITE.....CHILD TO ADULT........THUG TO CORPORATE EXECUTIVE LOVE THIS TEAM AND THE CITY IS ON FIRE...FROM THE CLUB TO THE STREETS......I CAN'T STAND IT............ I ACTUALLY BEEN HERE ABOUT A MONTH AND ROUTED FOR EVERY TEAM AGAINST THE MAVS FROM PHOENIX TO KNOW AND THEY'VE JUST MADE ME LOOK STUPID AND LIKE A BIG HATER.......WHEN SOMEONE KNOWS I'M FROM HOUSTON THEY GIVE ME THE BUSINESS MERCILESSLY BUT HEY THEY HAVE GREAT FANS WHO ARE ALL MAVS MANIACS TICKETS TO THE GAME ARE THE HOTTEST IN TOWN...HELL THE PLAYERS CAN'T EVEN GET TICKETS......WE ON THE OTHER HAND ONLY LOVE OUR ROCKS WHEN THEY WHEN THEY WIN......BUT THE ROCKS HAVEN'T GIVEN US MUCH TO LOVE IN THE LAST 6 YEARS OR SO JUST A BUNCH OF HERAT BREAK THAT WE HOPE WILL CHANGE THIS SUMMMER
I'm also pretty depressed that we are so far behind the Mavs. But I have to note that their apparent depth and versatility is mostly a function of their giant salary budget, which was $97 million this year, compared to $65 m for us. How many teams can afford to have bench warmers like KVH ($15 million), Stackhouse ($7 million), and Daniels ($5 million)? Then there's the $15 million a year they are still paying Finley. If we splashed out for a bench as good and as expensive as that, we would look pretty deep and versatile too. I don't know whether to be optimistic that we aren't really so far behind the Mavs, or despairing that Alexander would never invest enough to make us competitive.
Wow, first of all, CAPS we can do without. 2nd, I'm also from Dallas and it does suck to hear on radio and TV of them in the Finals. I rooted for SA and PHX, but this team is too good. Bleeding Rockets blood, I do respect this Mavs team. Cuban has brought this team up from the grave to become one of the elite in the NBA. Their scouting dept. has found some diamonds in the rough from the draft and overseas. Their coaches see potential in players who everyone has given up on. They are on the right track. That is why I'm hoping our Rockets can focus on getting the right players who want to play for the ring, not the bling.
You're right, but if you take away Finley, TAW, Eschmeyer, Bradley, and Christie's contracts (guys that had no hand on this great season whatsoever) - Dallas's payroll is right around $67-million which makes the roster not as expensive as one think. KVH is a goner too, I think, which slashes that payroll even more.
Yeah, I'm bummed. Sure, Rockets fans can take solace in the fact that Dallas will only have 1 title after the Finals are over vs. the Rockets 2, but let's not forget the Spurs already passed us up last year to up their total to 2 1/2. And anyone who thinks Dallas won't win another title in the years to come is kidding themselves. About the only scoreboard Houston has right now is that we're the only Texas team to win 2 straight. What's really frustrating is how pathetic the Rockets have been in the last 10 years. Going into next season, we won't have won a title in 12 years, a playoff series in 10 years, and we'll be coming off 5 lottery seasons in the last 7 with only Yao to show for all those picks. Never mind competing for a championship, can this organization make us into a perennial playoff team first? The resources are there. Les might not shell out contracts like Mark Cuban or Isiah Thomas, but he's also not Donald Sterling. They've had plenty of lottery picks, several of which came in some pretty deep drafts. And Houston has always been a popular destination for free agents and players seeking trades. The one constant in the last 10 years has been our mediocre management. This offseason is the make-or-break moment for everyone from Les on down to the towel guy. They've got the #8 pick, the mid-level exception, a (hopefully) healthy T-Mac, and the best center in the game(especially after Shaq's 5 point debacle last night). They're out of excuses. And I'm out of patience.
Yes, I'm bumped. I mainly worry about the system. Heat have the similar system like us and no shooters, no one can step up when they need SCORE. System, and players. Almost all Dallas' players can score/shoot/cut but our players except Tmac and Yao, other players can not score when we need. Mo. and Padget left and keep the Bo that's what we did. I think if it was Dallas they wouldl let Bowen leave and keep Mo or Padget. that's the defference.
I'm not bummed out because Wade is the only thing I really like about the Heat. Seeing Payton, Riles, Shaq and Zo come up short really feels good. I also must give Avery big time props for doing a great job this season. As a player, he got the most out of his limited ability. He learned from Nellie and Pop as an assistant before finally getting his head coaching chance. He's paid his dues. Dirk has also earned my respect this year. He's no longer a sissy wimp who get's jittery during tough playoff series. The guy is now a superstar who has stepped up to the plate and is leading his team. I would be completely bummed out if the Pistons were on their way. But this playoff season, I've mellowed out on the Mavs.
I would just as soon wipe my a$$ with razor blades as watch the Mavs flop and Cuban whine and cry to a title.
we had a lot of shooters that could put the ball in the hoop last the last time we played the Mav's in the play-offs that we don't have now.
This is the elephant standing in the room that very few people can see, especially Les Alexander and a majority of fans. Over this ten year period C. Dawson has been showered with abundant praise and a contract extension. The management team has largely remained intact. It is all a mystery to me. Morey may or may not improve the situation. During this period incredibly unproductive drafts, stupid trades, and ridiculous contracts have been the norm. Besides Ming and TMac, I see a vast wasteland of lost opportunities. The parade of "burned out old Knicks" has been shameful.
Has anyone noticed the play of Jerry Stackhouse? How come we can never get such a huge contribution off the bench?
If Mavericks win this year title, it just prove that everything can change and past cannot be used as a reference anymore. Hence, McGrady will definitely pass the 1st round playoff next season or even win a ring.
Your statement doesn't sound quite logic. If the first sentence is true, it can also mean we might never get a TMac with 35-sec-13 point back... I guess you are just joking Anyway, I am a little disappointed when Heats were really shut down----just imagine how difficult Wade and Shaq were in the game with Mavs, I couldn't help to think of TMac and Yao. And Heats' bench is probably still better than Roxs. Luckily, Yao's FT is MUCH better than Shaq. Still, feeling kind of low when picturing Roxs with Mavs...
We have zero players who would crack the rotation for Dallas aside from two stars who can't stay healthy. Solely judging players 3-15 we might even have the worst team in the league; if not the worst, it's way, way down there. We're pretty far away, which is why we are in the lottery.
I'm not bummed, but you know, you live in Dallas, we'll never hear the end of the Mavs winning...That's what's going to suck arse...
