Signing Mack will benefit us in the short term (ie. instant offense)and a starting job for Mobley; however, there are several ways having him under contract will futher our long term goals. For all of those weary about signing Sam, and there's not many, getting a good player at a good price is always a great situation.

We know there has been interest in Mack from several teams, but I bet his loyalty is to Houston, for whatever reason. We can sign him for next to nothing when other teams would love the opportunity. If we determine at a later date that we no longer need his services, he'll be easy to trade because of his inexpensive contract; a luxury which we do not have with Walt (ie. Maloney and Mckain).

However, I see Sam making an immediate contribution as soon as he rejoins the team. We must be careful, however, that we still find some time to showcase Walt. If he sits on the bench his value depreciates and we don't need a 5 million a year player depreciating. We still need to get something for Williams. Hopefully, with a little playing time, he'll come outta his funk.

Aquiring Mack for cheap is a win win deal!!

I agree. I think we can't lose by signing Mack.

But, for the life of me, I cannot figure out why no other team in the NBA has signed him yet. What do they know/think that we don't? There's gotta be a team in need of a player like Mack.

I'm of the opinion that playing him hasn't exactly appreciated his $5 million "worth", either. Playing him may do more harm to the Rockets than either benching him or reducing his playing time. Face it, if you trade just him, you're not going to get anything of worth (that I can think of anyway). Trading him in a multiplayer deal may be difficult because of the $5 million.

if he is cheap, and not a long term deal(4 years or whutever he wnated, go for it. Otherwise we can do without him, cuz he aint gonna be a vital piece to the Rocks by any stretch of the imagination.
