I get tons and tons of credit card junk mail. I just came across this site:

    https://www.optoutprescreen.com/

It sounds like a great idea, but I'm wary of giving a site my social security information. Has anyone heard of this site or tried it??

Never heard of it, doubt it works, and never, ever key your social security number in on a website.

You'd have better luck calling all of you financial institutions that you do business with (bank, mortgage company, car loan, car insurance company, credit card companies, etc) and telling them you'd like to 'opt out'. They'll know exactly what you mean and take care of it. They're required to by law.

They share your info with outside vendors but if you tell them not to, they have to stop by law. That's where all your junk mail is coming from.

The site is legit. It's run by the credit bureaus and it will remove your name and social from pre-screen offers.

Go to this forum if you have more questions.

This could quite possibly be the best thing since voting "None of the above" was mentioned.

whenever i get bored, i'll take those "postage paid" envelopes that come with the CC pre-approvals and just stuff as much trash in them as possible. i'll send it off and the person who opens it gets a nice surprise and "f**k off" while the company has to pay for the weight of the returned evelope.

The site is definitely legit and yes, it has cut down on the amount of crap people get in the mail.
