i read almost all of the posts in this thread, but what stuck out was the dave jamerson comment. jebus, i haven't heard that name in a while. i'm a noob and all, but is that common? also, marbury has basketball in his blood. his problem is that it's better suited outside the confines of professional ball. the numbers are there, but his head isn't. get it?
When he was at the Suns, when he was winning somewhat and made allstar team one year, there wasnt much complaints about him. He even made the Brown's US men's team. He is probably not a likable guy, but what Tim Thomas complain about him is wrong to me.
Tim Thomas is still as flaky as ever, but he gets more credibility due to the fact that he's not the only one who has been baffled by Starbury's behavior.
I wonder how many of the comments from Marbury's former team-mates are a direct result of players who have now played with Nash, a team first, past first, player. Marion, has made comments, not glaringly negative, but along the lines of, Marbury is a different PG from Nash. It depends what you want, someone who scores, or someone who works to get everyone involved. Amare, ditto on the comments, but there were also stories that Amare was not happy with Marbury dominating the ball. Quentin Richardson, traded from the Suns, was not very happy with the Knicks team. He said leadership had to come from the top. Guess who their number one guy is. Kurt Thomas, did not seem to be too upset with being traded to the Suns and playing with Nash. Kurt had also threatened to beat up Marbury's, punk a**, and surprise, surprise, surprise, he was traded. Barbosa, he really liked Marbury. Marbury bought him a vehicle. Now Tim Thomas. And those are just the comments from the past year. With the pattern that has developed, I have to think that TT is not far off the mark.
I though Richardson wanted to fight Stephon as well? I think one analyst put it best: "Marbury puts up great stats but they're meaningless." I used to overrate Steve because of his stats. Steve was the type that allowed opposing players to foul him at the end just so that he can pad his stats.
You are correct. I had forgotten about Q's little contretemps with Marbury. If I recall correctly, he was going to wait for Marbury to come out of the building and beat the whatsit out of him. I think they called Q's father to talk him out of it.
Comparing Nash's career stats to Marbury's is not an apples to apples comparison. When Nash entered the league, he was not starting and stuck behind veterans. Look at Nash's last several years and compare those to Marbury's. Also, Nash's teams are winners. Winners don't get bashed. Jamal Crawford is also the shooting guard and he often came off the bench for the Knicks. His role was to shoot and provide instant offense.
I'm pretty sure Mo Taylor and Marbury gave iPods to all the rookies on the Knicks as gifts to start the year. The one he gave to iPod could've been an extra one or maybe he keeps them around. In any case, Thomas said it was weird to get an iPod as a farewell gift when the guy hadn't spoken to him until that point. No one said anything about Marbury not hanging out with the guys. Thomas said that Marbury never said anything to him. Kobe, Barry, Shaq, Yao might do things that make them a bit isolated but they at least talk to their teammates.
