Does anyone know of a prospect who will be greatly hyped in the future? I already know Greg Oden will be, but I'm talking about the next great swingman. Everybody was excited about LeBron, but I never really felt it. Today's swingmen don't really excite me much, I don't own any current jerseys except T-Mac's. I need a new player to watch, an exciting player people will talk about, always on TV, ESPN, all of that. So does anyone know the next great one?
OJ Mayo is supposed to be the next great guard. He's only 6'4" though, so he might play PG. He's expected to go #1 ahead of anyone except Oden.
OJ Mayo. He is more of a PG than a swingman but definitely has the ability to be one of the premier scorers on the next level. I first saw this kid in a documentary when he was in 8th grade!! He is by far the biggest prospect since Lebron, maybe even more so that Oden.
Hmmph! I doubt any of the guys on the radar will impact the league in their first 3 years like LeBron. Oden is a project and IMO obviously will not impact the league as much off the bat.
Oden is a project? Do you have any clue what you are talking about? Oden is Shaq with touch on his shot. He is dominant on both ends of the floor, would have been #1 if in the draft last year, would be #1 in this year's draft and will be #1 whenever he comes out. He is a high school senior and he has everything in his game to the point he is developing new low post moves. He still has some learning to do, but he is nowhere close to a project. That said, Oden is a Shaq or Yao type of player, not a LeBron or Jordan. Mayo definitely is the next big swingman type of player to explode on the scene. He has been compared favorably to LeBron at the same level for years.
I admit to only seeing scribblings of a few highlights of Oden, but he looked like a project to me. His physical potential is scary but he doesn't look very skilled at this point. Of course, Mr. Buckeye, we will all get a very good look at him in Columbus next year. It's good to see OSU so high on everyone's radar. The expectations haven't been this high in a long time.
Here's some Oden highlights from the McDonald's All-American game. It was an all-star game and on top of that he had a wrist injury, so his point production wasn't amazing. He blocked shots like nobody I've seen since Hakeem's days though. He also seems like an extremely grounded kid that is dedicated to both basketball and the classroom. In fact, he seems to like learning so much, I wouldn't be incredibly surprised if he ultimated stayed at OSU for a while and finished his degree first. (Ok, I'd be surprised, but the guy seems to have a love for the books unlike most high school ultra athletes of the past.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCYVQlg2NUQ&search=greg oden Whoever gets this guy is getting an absolute gem that will be a perennial all star at the least, in my opinion.
Next year's college bball season should be one of the best we've seen. It will be very interesting to see Oden's game in the college level, the guy is a beast but I would bet he has never played against a player over 6'6" (pure speculation). I wouldn't call him a project, but he definitely has some learning to do like Buckeye pointed out.
Rudy Gay is not short of talent even compared to LBJ. He is actually 1 inch taller. But obviously this guy only plays for money. I won't expect him to be an impact player until 3rd or 4th season, if ever, when he needs a new contract.
the highlights of him are the mcdonalds all-american game. he was dominating against the best players in the country and many of those players are over 6'6"
Say what? I want Rudy Gay on our team but he's a baby in diapers compared to the freak of nature known as LBJ. Gay will NEVER be able to handle and pass the ball like LBJ. He's also not nearly as strong and has shown no leadership qualities. Again, I say this as someone who wants Rudy Gay on the Rockets. But let's stay on planet Earth.
Lebron is a true freak of nature. He's listed at 240, but he looks bigger than that. He's a 6'9 (maybe even 6'10") brick, built like a PF (hell they used to have centers at that size), but moves like a SG. He's truly unique, and Gay doesn't have anything close to the freakish combination of size, mass and agility. Artest is the closest to that package, but he doesn't have near the handle or offensive skills that Lebron has. We're not going to see another Lebron in many, many years.
Sorry for the double post, but I can't edit, I just read more about Mayo on this site: http://bearcatnews.com/recruiting/bio/222/ This guy gets suspended alot it seems. I hope he's not some kind of messed up kid. BTW, can he dunk?
