I was wondering if anyone here know a good school and/or instructor in Houston that teaches guitar. I wanna be able to play Texas Flood by the end of the year. lol. Or is anyone here an instructor and is down to give private lessons?
me too (thanks to PS2's "Guitar Hero"..... a freakin' awesome game) I live inside the loop, right behind Twelve Oaks Hospital (Richmond & Wesleyan).
And a wonderful guy. You should go check him out on Sunday nights at Shakespeare's Pub when he mans the house band for the blues jam with Spare Time Murray. He likes to get alot of his students up on stage for the jam there for a little "practice under fire".
I've been through that gauntlet before. Five songs I knew pretty well turned into another three that I'd never heard before... good thing the Guinness was flowing freely.
I love that jam but I can only do it when I have the day off on Monday. Spare Time is a great rocking blues bass player and a wonderful guy.
I believe it was about $80-$85/month (4 x 1/2 hour lessons). I know Rockin Robin had raised the lesson fees sometime last year, but I'm not sure what the current rate is. Call them at (713) 520-8383 and someone should get back to you. I think that price range is pretty common for lessons these days...
hmmm, i would hate to get up on stage and look like a goof. unless they gimme the guitar hero guitar then ill completely 0wn.
Don't worry about looking like a goof... The completely trashed lady in the audience bellowing "PLAY THAT LOUIEEE ARMSTRONG SONG... ISS A WUNERFUL WURLDDDD!" will still think you're hot. And any guitar can be a guitar hero guitar... (as long as you make the guitar hero face when you bend the strings)...
Whatever you do, get a good instructor. I have tried off and on to teach myself. Unfortunately, I didn't get very far. What type of guitar do you own?
It's not that bad. Believe me. That's what a flask is for. I'm a helluva rhythm guitarist, but for the life of me I can't solo AT ALL. When I try, it's just total SLOP. Can that be taught or is it just something you have to figure out yourself?
i have a red Fender starcaster, i got it for a pretty good deal, they had em at best buy. it came with alot of goodies so i said what the hell lets get it. and i have an acoustic but its so outta tune that i dont even wanna tune it.
sorry to ressurect, i was just going to say i finally signed up for lessons at Rockin Robin. The price is 4 lessons for 80 bucks. My instructor is going to be Steve Hitt. Anyone heard of him or know if hes a good instructor, thanks for everyones help.
We need your lessons taught to you in PDF format. Thanks. The thing that pisses me off(and this is on my top 10 peeves list) is those mf-ers who are self-taught and among the pinnacle of guitar players, e.g. Alex Lifeson of Rush. The guy's a genius in my book. Every other book that says otherwise is wrong in my opinion. Even if you don't like the music, you have to respect the ability of the man. So, I play a lot of Rush on guitar. Then, I play a lot of Pink Floyd(I like Division Bell and Dark Side). Then, my leftovers go to some other bands. I really like just figuring out songs and solos by ear. I've also got a five volume Guitar Teaching set. Talking about a b****, man! Their definitely not page turners. Those mainly just stay on the bookshelf!
2K - I may be telling you something you already know, but the surest and quickest route to at least playing some leads in key with a little flair is to learn the blues scale. It's real simple and the notes will always work so long as you play them in the key of the song. Just noodle around with different combinations of any of those notes. Once you got that, learn a couple repeating patterns and try to develop enough strength in your fingers to bend the strings/note. Develop a vibrato if you can and mix well - voila, your playing passable lead guitar.
Here's a real good Free Guitar Lessons site with videos. Here he teaches you how to play "Pride and Joy"-SRV http://www.dolphinstreet.com/guitar_video_lessons/lesson-21.php
